Yeah, Wayne. You wouldn't happen to mind putting this in some sort of context for those of us scratching our heads, wouldn't you? ;)

Fans are upset and it's to do with renewing subscription, most likely for Hyperspace membership or Insider subscription; or perhaps both are interrelated. The problem in all likelihood stems from the greedy PTB wanting to squeese a few more dollars from the fans, who are naturally upset.

And all that was from the FIRST FUCKING 6 POSTS! Goddamn crybabies.

Maybe that's why Lord Poe linked to *gasp* a specific page in the thread?

What is "Selects" and why are they bitching about it?

I read it elsewhere, but the two subscriptions Hyperspace and Insider are being linked. So it costs more.

Of course if you wanted to only get the magazine, then you're basically screwed. And it seems that the membership is for a really long time too.

Or something like that.

Basically, what happened is that they now sell only a package deal, with both Hyperspace membership and an Insider subscription. People like me, who already had an Insider subscription but not a Hyperspace account, must now pay the $40 for a new subscription AND Hyperspace account. We will then receive the additional issues we've already paid for AFTER Hyperspace ends. People who have Hyperspace accounts AND Insider accounts must ALSO pay double for their subscriptions, and people with Hyperspace accounts but no Insider subscriptions simply LOSE their money if they want to get an Insider subscription.

The "Selects" are a bonus for signing up that was promised to people. They have not yet been sent. They consist of some photos from the set of Episode III, as well as some other materials. I'm unsure about their exact composition.

The same thing is happening across the board.

Topps and WizKids, for example, have jettisoned player support and rules balancing for several months now, largely because they know they'll maintain a base of apathetic fans even if a few dozen make a "principled stand" about having been ruthlessly pissed on.

I think Star Wars is the ultimate example, though. I very strongly feel that part of the idea behind the new episodes was to appeal to children and recreate the massive market for Star Wars items that appeared once the original trilogy took off. LucasArts seems most interested now in scooping up as much money as possible, the quality and consistency of the overall universe be damned.

LucasFilm.

LucasFilm is the parent company, while LucasArts is the just the video game division.
