Hmm, its pretty much non-reactive acting like a much much stronger version of Concrete almost, it can be worn down by water however solid 1 Meter sized colums of the stuff can take Kiloton to Megaton level expolsions

Example
In Wedge's Gamble 1(2?)Torps exploded inside a Durasteel/duarcrete building quote *Obliterating everything for five floors yet the Supports and the upper and lower levels are fine even though theres nothing else left(Celings and roof's seem to be ok to from the wording)

Or to put it another way they have a substance that could take Twenty 747s and not flinch

Hmmm. I've never seen any figures, but it does seem significantly tougher that normal alloys.

Essentially unshielded durasteel TIE Fighters are able to withstand atmosphere entry and exit with relative ease (ref. Empire Strikes Back).

Durasteel starship frames can withstand hundreds of times the stress needed to destroy structural steel members. I'd say we're looking at a material with at least two orders of magnitude greater strength than steel.

I think it's pretty much a given that durasteel is significantly stronger than alloys we have today. I'm wondering, though, are there any cites that give a hint to durasteel's apparent weight, or mass, or density?

IIRC, saying Jet-A can fly an order of magnitude faster than Jet-B is basically the same thing as saying that Jet-A can go 10 times faster than Jet-B. Or in other words, every "magnitude" is a multiplying factor of 10 ("orders of magnitude" meaning at least 100 times).

The way it's usually used in these discussions, the phrase means "a range of values between a designated lower value and an upper value ten times as large" (from dictionary.com, because they say it so pretty).

What that means is that if Object A has a property measuring 1 Unit, and Object B measures at least an order of magnitude greater than Object A, then Object B measures at least 10 Units.

What's this about Durasteel being worn down by water? And how long does it take? ANYTHING can be worn down by water but it either takes (1) an incredably long time or (2) you're using a hypervelocity water nossile that sprays water molecules out at supersonic speeds, such as the jigs they use on percision manufacturing.

Actually this one gets abused a lot. An order of magnitude is an exponential change of +/- 1. The term is generally used in conjunction with power-of-10. But with several other units it may have a base of 2 or even 2.152 for star brightness. Also if the base if <1 you get smaller numbers as you increase the order of magnitude! So 2 orders of magnitude does not necessarily mean 100 times stronger than, but it can often be assumed as such.

Durasteel would have to be incredibly dense (or have an equivalent ability to absord heat), be reflective so as to radiate the absorbed heat, and have a low modulus of elasticity (so as not to deform too much under the extreme SW stresses generated), but with a massive tensile strength.

He got it mixed up with duracrete, which is apparently some composite reinforced building material with concrete-like properties.

Durasteel has only three times been referenced as being corroded. Once on Coruscant, once on Nar Shadaa, and once on Duro. In each of these cases, it was exposed to rainwater on HIGHLY polluted planets for VERY long periods of time (hundreds of years, at least, on Duro. The rest for much longer.). It can be worn away, but not in one lifetime by much of anything short of highly concentrated acids.

One key ingridient in Durasteel is a little bit of love, without it, you fail, a pinch of childrens dreams also help make it strong so does souls of ghosts.
Though they are hard to get.

Durasteel is never said to be vulnerable to Stone Mites or Duracrete Slugs, is it? I just checked the HoloNet News website, and they mention Stone Mites devastating a city, but not whether or not they can affect durasteel.
I don't have the EIIVD handy, as it's in storage; does anyone know if in that book or another durasteel is said to be vulnerable to any animal?

Gretches from NJO series are supposed to be able to punture Durasteel, they are alive.. pretty much do they count?
