The only thing I find annoying is the quaint spot-lamp.

Very good. Now if we could only see a screenshot of the HUD clone troopers use.

You mean like those that have been out for 8-10 months?

My apologies. I knew that they existed, but didn't know where to look (most of the pictures I have seen were from a few gaming magazine issues).

Now only if your armor can come in colors other than bone-white...

It looks like they did a "HALO Eye for the StarWars Guy" thing there. Pretty cool stuff. Like IP said, now they just need to apply some camo spray paint.

does the ingame screen remind anyone else of Metroid Prime?

Camoflouge armor might not be very usualful due to sensor capabilities. Droids could use infrared to see them.

And they could see them anyway without it.
Of course, they probably have countermeasures against such obvious detection methods...

I doubt they could think up an effective countermeasure to being seen by droid eyes, really.
It's probably the legacy of the Clone War that Stormtroopers are dressed so. With every droid probably having detection systems able to see through something so rudimentary as camoflage, why not white?

I find the "Katarn-class commando armor" interesting... a
Dark Forces reference? (And if so, is Kyle Katarn's armor in the original
Dark Forces an old chestplate from a Katarn-class commando armor suit?
)

A Katarn is a type of large wolf, IIRC.

Ok? So fucking what--some of their enemies would find them harder to see, which is the whole fucking point.
What, you thought real life camo was a stealth suit?
Vympel: More fighting is being done by local volunteers and stuff than anything else. At least logistics--the pure numbers--would argue for that.

At the very least you'd think the Republic/Empire could afford to at least give their squads a few cans of primer in a dull color and some spray paint before a mission.

Why is pre-New Rep commanda armour called Katarn-class? Was Kyle named after the armour or something?

Crazed, please look up a few posts.
McC wrote:A Katarn is a type of large wolf, IIRC.
That's like asking if something that's called a "Wolf-class" whatever was named after "Wilbur Wolf" or some such. It was named after the animal. Kyle Katarn's last name like also descends from the name of the animal.

On which side?

Vympel - a lot of the Seperatist planets seem to have considerable numbers of local levees (i.e the Shatterpoint planet and many of those in the "Insider" news pages).
Also note that the Commando armor does not feature a utility belt of any sort. Interesting.

Good point. I haven't read any prequel EU.

Anything they need must be in the Survival Pack. Putting ammunition back there is just plain bad design, however.

Did anybody notice, what is said about their weapon?
The DC-17?
Posted: 2004-06-12 03:13pm
by Icehawk
You can't read it?
"DC17M
The DC-17m combat rifle supplants the formiddible DC-15 rifle used by standard clone troopers. Light-weight design and withering firepower allows for close quarters combat while the formiddible chassis quickly transforms the DC-17m into a sniper rifle or an anti armor gun"

I can read it.
What i was curios about is, if anybody besides me thinks it worth mentioning, that the DC-17m can be transformed into a sniper-rifle or an anti-armor-gun (what does anti-armor mean? enough power to destroy tanks?)

Basically, yes.

In real life, anti armor rifles are used for taking out
light armor vehicles like troop carriers and Humvees.
Star Wars blaster tech might allow them to charge up the gun to get a few extreme high power shots off to knock out a light hover tank or a large battle droid.
