An Imperial Victory class Star Destroyer engages a MC80 cruiser. The Star Destroyer has two squadrons of TIE Defenders while the cruiser has one squadron of X-Wing, B-Wing and Y Wing each. Assuming that neither side is allowed to run away who wins ?

I believe that the MC-80 would win, barely. The Rebel fighters are as good as dead, but the TIE/Defs won't be much more than a minor nuisance after that.

I'm going to assume that by X-Wings, you don't mean Rogue Squadron.

Realistically speaking, the MC80 complement would probably be above average to be posted to a big ship. While the mere existence of TIE Defenders would mean that the squadron is Imperial elite, and probably the ship (a mere Vic got TIE Defenders?) as well.

Still, the MC80 will probably win. It is bigger, faster, with superior shielding. Sure, the Vic's concussion missiles will give it a one time advantage, but once that's fired off ...

If there's any chance for the Vic, it will have to have an elite crew, so that the crew makes up for the raw firepower difference.

In several EU novels it was shown that a single VIC missile volley is sufficent to down the shields on even an ISD2. If the VIC can down the MC80s shields, the MC80 is going to be in serious trouble. Now if the MC80 has superior shields to the ISD2 (which Calamari cruisers are somewhat known for) then it has a chance.

Actually, I think it just has more backups, not superior shields. The true speed that they can put up a backup shield to plug the gap would be important.

Worse, the salvo can take out a sheild facing, but if the MC-80 or ISD turns and presents a fresh facing ...

Yeah, the MC80 can put backup shields online shortly after they're first taken out -- and then theres always the antimissile fire it can put up before the missiles hit the shield.

I'm not sure how much damage the TIE/Ds can do to the MC80 before it closes the range and crushes the VSD (the latter having poor maneuverability and linear acceleration). If the Rebel fighters play it smart they'll play a holding action rather than try and go on the offensive.

I believe it was in Isards revenge, but i might be wrong. When Prince Admiral Krenel lays a trap for the Republic Fleet. Bel Iblis waits untill Krenels Interdictor fires up it's grav well and preforms the Thrawn Pincer. His Vic jumps in and lays into Krenel's ISD.
