Rand Ecliptic part II

Anyone remember this?

Dr. Saxton has put up an article about the "new" Rand Ecliptic.

He estimates the ship to 750 m, most likely based on it's likeness with the Acclamator.

I have however scaled the pictures, and come up with a low end of 2305 m, an adjusted scaling of 2523 m, and a high end of over 2683 m. It's possible to scale it even larger with less conservative estimates, but I would say the correct size according to the pictures is somewhere around 2600 m.

Notes - the ship has been called a freighter in some sources, in the comic it's sometimes called a cruiser, or even a battlecruiser, but most often a frigate.

Could you do a bit more than simply feeding us stuff on your good word (no offense, but I like to see what's going on).

Perhaps some scans and an explanation of your methodology along with some graphics would go a long way.

Oh, and I don't think Dr. Saxton stated how he derived his 750 m figure. You're assuming its based on the LOA of the Acclamator-class.

The closest TIE fighter in this picture is 47 pixels high. I assume this equals 6,63 m, which may be too little since it typically refers to the lenght, but I want to be conservative here. For the same reason, I don't compensate for angles while scaling - it can only increase the number. The hangar in the same picture is 508 wide and 207 high, but we don't get to see the ends of it, so this is low end. Outside scaling reveals the hangar to have a ratio of 2,6875, which gives an adjusted height of the hangar to be 556 pixels, or 78,47 m (still too little since we can't see the ends of it).

The outside picture (EDIT: sorry, another picture. I should have pointed that out, but I don't exactly get to do this in a peaceful environment) gives the lenght of the ship as 851 pxels with a hangar height of 17 (possibly 16). So 851/17 * 78,47. This alone ends up at 3928 meters.

But like I said, I wanted to be conservative. So I also measured what we can tell of the ship in the first picture, which suggests the lower numbers I have presented.. but again, we don't see all of the ship, so my figure is actually too low.

Like I said, yes. It's a pretty good assumption however, since it's implied in his entry, and I can see no other way to end up with 750. Suffice to say, 4 km is a bit large for a frigate.

EDIT2: The reactor bulge is 11 px where the ship is 158 px. Assuming it's proportionally the same as on an ISD, then the bulge is 175 m in diameter and the ship is then 2545 m.
