While looking for something else, I found the passage in the script that describes above scene:
The TESB Script wrote:EXTERIOR: HOTH -- ICE PLAIN -- SNOW TRENCH -- DAY
Rebel troops carry heavy bazooka-type weapons and position
them along the snow trench. Men hurriedly respond to their
officers' yelled orders and brace themselves against the
rhythmic gusts of bitter-cold wind.
Other troops load power packs into a gun turret and swing
its guns into position.
Does anyone have the description from the novel, so maybe we can determine if this is a "bazooka-type weapon" or not?
Donald F. Glut, The Empire Strikes Back, p. 52 wrote:In the snow trenches, Rebel officers screamed out their orders to make themselves heard above the gale-force winds. Troopers hurried to carry out their commands, running through the snow with heavy bazookalike weapons on their shoulders, and lodging those death rays along the icy rims of the trenches.
If that's it, then it seems to be a blaster weapon. Which is possible. The barrel might be so thick because of cooling devices (like in the BlasTech T-21).

It doesn't look like an RPG launcher, since the back of it is covered and the guy is holding it against his shoulder. It seems to be some type of heavy blaster, instead.

Bazooka like; seems more like a physical description of the large tube like barrel than the actual operating characteristics.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
