In AOTC , where Obiwan and Anakin enters a pub, we see a televised sports match being played out in the background when Obiwan orders a drink.
The interesting thing was, it was played by droids.
So, what are the social, and more important of all, gambling aspects of that? I mean, its kinda hard to imagine how enthuastic one is going to get over Zidane and Beckham passing if we know that its not a gift granted to them by genetic chance and training, but is manufactured.

Maybe it's like Robot Wars?
People make thier own droids and have them duke it out in whatever way.

If it's different companies making teams, then it's still dependant on how good they are made. Or what qualities the differen companies deem important. They wouldn't be all the same.

Um, so what's the question? There doesn't seem to be one other than just a statement.

Its also a sort of easter egg to an old arcade game featuring robots playing football.

Yes, but look at it this way. Human players change. Chance is a huge factor. I mean, if today, the LA lakers defeated the Chicago Bulls, it does not stand to reason that they will do so again the next game. For a robot game, how big a deal can it be?
And yes, I'm bored.

In theory, NASCAR races should be won by the same car (or model of car) every time. But in between races, the techs tinker with them, trying to get a second more speed out of it. Also, different races demand different alignments for the spoilers, height from ground, etc, so they're tinkering with those.
I'd suspect Robot Teams would do much the same. Lose to a Team who was faster? Tinker with the droids to up their speed.

Because you all should know, those droids were playing "Nuna Ball." The nuna, as some of you may recall, is a creature native to Naboo (and has found its way to Tatooine--Jabba flicks one off a balcony in TPM). The rules of the sport are unknown, but as you may have imagined the ball they use is indeed a nuna.

So I guess that rules out animal cruelty laws in the Republic... ; )
