Heard any rumors about the movies, and about changes to the original storyline. What happened to the other 3 in the series? Well despite that, heres what I have heard what was changed at one point in the movie making process

1) The falcon was supposed to be destroyed in Return of the Jedi. It makes very good sense. They get Chewie and Han off of it, then Han distinctly says something like hes got a bad feeling he will not see it again. Everything was being set up for her destruction. What I have heard happened was it did not make it out of the death star during the last scene, it was screened that way and the audience needless to say did not like it. Lucas then added the scene of it coming out of the fire, to please the viewers. Seems like a reasonable rumor.

2) Qui-Gon and Count Dukoo were originally supposed to be the same charactor. Qui-Gon was not supposed to go with Obi to help at Naboo, then some one somewhere decided that it needed to have a more mature charactor find Anikin than a young Obi-won. The resemblence of the 2 charactors is great, both rougish, both willing to ignore the council to serve the force (or there own needs depending on how you look at it). The scene in episode 2 also lays a little more proof of this, when Dukoo asks Obi to join him, I could easly see how Lucas could have wanted this originally to be his former master. (Just a side note, I like the way it turned out Qui-Gon is my favorite Jedi thus far)

3) Luke was supposed to turn to the Dark Side. I actually heard this one somewhere on the board and don't have too much to back it up. If the series was supposed to be 9 Parts I can see this though.

Has anyone else have rumors about the originalstory compared to what was put on screen? Any comments about the rumors above (besides spelling and grammer, its late and I am not the best speller to start with)

Didn't Harrsion Ford want Han to be killed in the Carbonite Freezing process?

And for some more unimportant features, the Queen's starship in Episode I was once supposed to be armed with a gun turret.

Ah yes, Luke turns to the dark side and his sister (not Leia IIRC) is the hero

Yeah if they;re to be believed the whole Thrawn trilogy was the Emperor pissing about with the republic

If you want to know what might have been, check out the SW EPIV ANH script draft versions. They are _really_ different from what we ended up with. Much less streamlined (see the concept art as well) and tech was a bit more primitive-seeming.

Actually he wanted a heroic death destroying the Death star 2, essentially he ould have been on the Falcon as it failed to make it out.

Some things I heard...

-Luke was supposed to turn to the Dark Side in Ep. 6. The next three movies were supposed to be a search for his sister (who, as mentioned above, was originally not going to be Leia), who was then to be trained, and then was supposed to take down Luke.

-The final battle was supposed to take place over Coruscant (which was not, of course, called Coruscant at the time) with TWO Death Stars instead of one. There's a pretty infamous pre-production sketch that shows this.

-Endor was, indeed, supposed to be Kashyyyk. Imagine how much more interesting it would have been to see a horde of enraged wookiees tearing stormtroopers to pieces. But, as is rampant in the movie industry, this was changed for marketing purposes (Ewoks are SO CUTE!), and because, well, small furry costumes are cheaper to get than large hairy ones.

I wonder if something like this would have happened:

Luke is one one Death Star, Emperor on another. The Emperor instructs Luke to fire on the Rebel fleet when Leia shows up. They do something like the ROTJ Throne Room scene, where Luke comes back to the light side, but it's too late. Rebel fighters already penetrated the Luke DS and are on the way to destroy it and Luke was injured. To atone for his wrongdoings, he send Leia away and fires his DS at the Emperor's. Then his blows up.

I 've read that it was originally called Jhantor, which is obviously influenced by Asimov's Trantor, especially since Trantor was also a city-planet.

It was originall called Had Abbadon I believe. I used to have an early script draft on my PC, it kinda sucked.

I think Dooku was supposed to be Catherine Zeta Jones. Her and Lucas are friends in real life
