I don't know. It is likely invisibly small in the movie, but since the model was used in the movie, it is canon. Imperial designer humour?

Right from the center, there is a hole like thing in the structure and a soldier within that. Body, head and left arm is visible.

As a joke. Jokes don't count in terms of canonicity, otherwise there would also literally be a gigantic potato and sneaker in the Hoth Asteroid Field as well...

I've never seen em (the giant potato/ sneaker).

They're there. You just have to know exactly where to look. I can't remember exactly where in the field the potato is, but I've seen the shoe quite clearly many times.

Inside jokes and gags like that apply under the same rules as goofs and continuity errors, in that they don't count and generally should be completely ignored.

Start at right/center and then go left about an inch, he is hiding in shallow hole. I had to enlarge the picture to spot it myself.
