Finally, it's been released. What do you guys think? Cool or crap? I kinda like it (with the proviso that the end product always looks different and better than the concept art).

Hmm. Interesting. All and all, a decent cross between the X-Wing and the Republic Gunship - now we know where the boys over at Incom got the design idea. 8)

So, are Z-95s just shit out of luck for a movie appearance?

Unless they sneak it in during the battle; remember the Falcon's cameo during the Borg attack in First Contact?

I think that looks sweet.

Actually, no I don't. *Goes to watch it again.* But that'd likely be because ILM had the model lying around and decided to use it. They don't have one of a Z-95. Hopefully they'll put them in there, though.

They've stated for months that the Z-95 will definately NOT appear in RotS.

As for the ARC 170, it looks alright, but I bet the version that actually appears in the film will look different, as that concept design is two years old.

God damn, why must you come in and start jabbing about the stuff I've been assiduously trying not to learn for certain?

Looks Anime-ish to me.

Good Disign, like one of the old fighter/bombers from ww-2, and the Badass factor is threw the Roof!

I hate it. What was wrong with the Z-95 and Y-Wing?

Precisely. *Grumps*

Those probably are contemporaries of the VSD, which postdate the Clone Wars.

Z-95 predates TPM and thats canon.

Who cares about the Headhunter. This thing looks kickass, and it probably is much better armed since the Gunships of the Republic dished out major ass kicking power and this looks like a smaller version of a Gunship. I like it a lot. Also it, i dont know, 'clicks with the whole feel of the Clone Army better.

I really like it too. The 3-man crew and rear gun evokes images of WWII flying fortresses. Perhaps this is the Republic's fighter-bomber?

Between this and the V-19 Torrent fighters in CW, I´m pretty much satisfied with Republic fighters in motion as is. Anything else is just a bonus. 8)

looks kinda cool, but what is the point of the S foils on that thing? :|

Interestingly, it's a similar argument to the 'wings' on the shuttlepod - but that's a P.O.S. At least this crafr has style.

Yeah, considering the age of the drawing and the statement below, it's very likely that it'll look nothing like what's seen there:
Starting next week, a new image series will be available for all visitors. Art of Revenge explores the amazing wealth of concept art generated by the Art Department. Under the direction of Ryan Church and Erik Tiemens, hundreds of breathtaking and intriguing pieces of original art have been developed to help George Lucas envision the final chapter of the Star Wars saga. Each illustration, painting or design represents one step in the creative process, some being very close to final designs, while others being creative departures that never make it to the movie screen.

Z-95: because it's an EU creation and noone at ILM or Lucas gives a crap about it :)

Y-Wing: because its been done.

I've said it scores of times, I will continue to not understand *at all* the desire to see EU ships in a SW film. Never would I be more disappointed than to see the overwhelmingly derivative and lame EU ships (for the most part) take the place of new designs that will actually surprise us.

If anyone's seen the Art of Attack of the Clones (I've flipped through it, didn't purchase, way too pricey) you can see that demonstrated by the LAAT ("Republic Gunship") designs- the concept art never does the final model justice.

That fighter looks like a reject from the game Starlancer

Not bad though...

Frankly, I don't see why we can't just have X-wings in the prequels. The design could conceivably be centuries old. Yes, that means ignoring the EU. :)

Also, shouldn't latter-day Republic fighters look more like TIEs anyway?

Why? Seinar Fleet Systems (well, it wasn't called that back then, but anyway) shouldn't have a monopoly on fighter design. We already know Incom did work for the Republic, and that has Incom design written all over it.

Why?
To show the transition to the OT Imperial designs, like they're doing with the clonetroopers and warships.
