Dreadnaught heavy cruiser vs Nebulon-B frigate

Post by Sarevok »

Both ships are Imperial and therefore have TIE fighter wings. Who wins ?
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

The Dreadnaught's heavy turbolasers shred the Nebulon-B's shields and proceed to break it in half. The fighters are mostly inconsequential, but may inflict superficial damage to the Dreadnaught.

The Dreadnaught severley outguns its opponent. Its firepower comes from 10 TL cannons, 20 quad TL cannons, and 10 TL batteries. Its smaller adversary, the Nebulon-B, only sports 12 TLs and 12 regular laser cannons, for anti-fighter duty.

Without bombers, the TIE Fighters don't pack enough of a punch to damage either ships on their own, perhaps after a section of shielding drops on a vessel, which would almost certainty be the Neb-Bs.

You're comparing a frickin' frigate, designed to escort convoys and protect them from starfighters, against a ship that's designed to go toe-to-toe with other capital ships. Of course the Dreadnaught's gonna win. It massively outguns its opponent.

Well considering the ISD is a destroyer...the Dreadnaught must be a Swift Boat, and that puts the Nebulon down to a guy in a blow up raft with a slingshot.

The ISD is a *Star* Destroyer, not a destroyer. There's a difference.

Actually there are vessels such as pickets, cutters, frigates, monitors, and corvettes beneath destroyer.

Why don't you go fuck yourself if you're not really going to contribute?

You obviously missed the entire argument that IP and I had out over that...

Which is curious, since I have seen Vympel gunning for the Saxtonian interpretation before.

Two squadrons' worth of TIEs, according to the X-Wing novels, but really it's gotta be less than that. Make one of the squadrons TIE bombers and it might have a chance, actually. Hold on, I'll see if I can fetch a screenshot or something. The hangar's in the front section. (With Rebel design fighters the capacity is much less, though. Let's hear it for TIE launching racks.)

Edit: Well, found this. Shows the hangar. I don't know if the hangar entrance is observed in the movie. Couldn't find a shot of that.

Based on which navy? WWII? Modern? WWI? Napoleonic? The people arguing for which type the ships are need to pick a frame they are basing it all from. Since they seem to think they can pick from the real world.

All of the above are present in modern navies.

You realize that, say, Ender argues on my side for a reason, correct? Maybe its because he's a sailor in the fucking Navy and knows something about it.

As does Lonestar, and he serves on a Ticonderoga class, the Bunker Hill.

Maybe I was misunderstood- among the *real* ships of the Imperial Starfleet (i.e. the ones with a "Star" prefix) the ISD is a destroyer in role, that's my position. "Star" being a form of superlative to indicate a type of ships above and more powerful than those of regular size (i.e. Dreadnoughts, Strike Cruisers, Carracks etc).

Of course, if we were to incorporate those shitty second line ships into the "Star" nomenclature, they would be designated something far less capable than Destroyers by default. But they don't have "Star", so they keep their grand-sounding names for such dimunitive (by comparison) ships
