What kind of ship would old/new Republic and/or Empire explorer ship would be like (specs) or would just use their warships.

Since most of the galaxy has all ready been mapped they would most likely use their warships instead.

If it was for exploring outside the galaxy, the Old Republic sent a ship with several Jedi. I think it was a rather small ship. The Empire would probably send warships with plenty of supplies. They would set up military bases and then do some exploring.
The new Republic would probably do the same as the Old Republic assuming they don't know about the Vong yet.

Not that small. According to the latest Zahn novel, it was a core, with six old-style dreadnaughts docked to it. While this isn't ecactly epic in scale for SW, it is still at least a destroyer grade vessel.

I was Extragalacitc exploration. (this is for a SW vs. ST crossover, but didn't post it in that forum since it's SW tech.)

Actually they would likely use their warships.
Given the span between them actually doing any sort of scientific exploration vs current era, they seem to have completely lost the use of a dedicated science vessel like Trek.
So seriously it would a warship group with the intention of research before blasting.

Well, that really depends on how focused the Empire is on exploration. We do know about the Old Republic's intention of extra-galactic exploration (the Katana fleet), but I guess the Empire would be more focused on conquest, not scientific exploration. Thus, I guess the Empire would send a fleet of Star Destroyers or other warships.
One thing that is interesting. The speed of the hyperdrive would enable SW ships to make a journey to a nearby galaxy in a very short time.

The Katana fleet? I thought it was to be used within the galaxy.

Indeed. The
Outbound Flight was meant to leave the galaxy.
EDIT: Although it did use Dreadnaughts with Katana-style modifications.

The embodiment of Palpatine's plans for extra-galactic conquest, the Imperium would have been as powerful as a Death Star, but much more mobile. Equipped with a small fleet of capital ships, thousands of fighters, and innumerable support craft, the Imperium would have had virtually unlimited range since it would also have carried several World Devastators to produce needed supplies. With this ship, the immortal Palpatine would have spread the Empire across the universe. Rumors suggest that the crew would also have been "immortal" as well, thanks to cloning equipment that would have been onboard. Thankfully, Palpatine was not as immortal as he had hoped, and the ship never progressed beyond initial planning before his final death. While some die-hard Imperials wanted to try and actually build it to use against the New Republic, saner heads prevailed and the Imperium remained only a terrible dream.

This would be a fan creation, correct? Might have to fanfic that one unless there's some reason not to.

Its not credited on his site which means he drew it himself. Normaly he will indicate if it came from a novel, you've read the info that came with it, most likely its his own creation.

It's still utterly masturbatory.
Zed: Of course it's fan-made. This isn't the first time that's been mentioned.

Ah. I'm not familiar with the site, actually. First time I've seen it was yesterday when I was running an image search for pictures of a Nebulon B frigate.

In that case, so are the Death Stars.

Out of curiosity, was there a point to binding the Dreadnoughts (and thus masking half of each one's guns) like that?

What on earth is that from?

A rendition of the Outbound Flight Project's vessel, I assume. A rather stupid way to do it, if you ask me...

I haven't had the chance to read the book yet (why to much shit going on IRL atm)
Although I'm pretty sure the Dred's can detach from the hub, the core being used for extra fuel, sensors, whatever...

Oh, it's been like ten years since I last read the Thrawn trilogy, even if I began reading HTTE last week (Gustav32Vasa, you're absolutely correct).
BTW, it was good to see another Swede!
