Here is what I do.

1. Add two weapon hardpoints to either side of the fuselage. They can mount ion cannons or lasers.

2. Improve shields to B-Wing standards.

3. Add a missile rack like Slave-1. It will be able to launch the same multi megaton missiles like the Slave-1

What are you willing to trade off to achieve these things. They aren't free, you know, and I'm not just saying it'd cost more.

You mean a modular system? Sounds like it might work: you'd probably lose PT capability, though, and the mounted weapons might be weaker than those which are directly hard-wired into the craft.

You'd probably have to overhaul the power plant and the engines as well to accomodate, giving a potentially larger and slower target to enemy forces.

In the space where the cargo compartment is (only real free space that I know of where it could be placed) or hanging from the underside in the fashion of modern fighter wing missile-mounting points? God help you if the enemy breaches your shields and makes a hit on those things.

I'd propose the following:

A) Sweep the S-Foils back - or forward - into a Delta Wing configuration: it could both increase atmospheric speed and also present dogfighters attacking from the front or rear with a slightly smaller target.

B) Replace the Proton Torpedo launchers with two pairs of side-standing Y-Wing ion cannons.

C) Scrap one of the beforementioned PT launchers and place the remaining one in the bottom of the craft's main hull - when firing, it could either simply drop the torpedo and let its drive ignite outside the craft, or have the mechanism lower from the body to fire, then return into the body. If possible, instead opt for a launcher with multiple warhead capabilities instead of a dedicated PT system.

D) Replace the angled, panaled canopy with a rounded, all-encompassing bubble canopy akin to that of the Z-95 Headhunter.

E) Install a small, semi-turreted rear-firing laser cannon for anti-missile work.

F) Upgrade shields, engines, and other basic systems with more efficient models of the same general make as nessecary: no direct modifications.

They do...or do you think when they attack a VSD, ISD or any such capital class ship they are using KT warheads?

Seriously use your brain for a couple seconds before posting a topic which honestly is a tad unfeasiable in terms of improving....what you have listed here is "I want a faster B-Wing."

Works, but then you cannot close the wings.

Increases the ship's mass, and requires greater power generators to power the shields, resulting in even more mass.

The slave 1 uses concussion missles. The X-wing uses proton torpedoes. Proton torpedoes do approx. twice the damage of concussion missles, sooo...it already has more powerful weapons.

Certainly not. I think that proton torpedo is a generic term, like laser or nuke. I mean, the proton torpedoes fired by Slave 1 certainly aren't the same kind of proton torpedoes that Rogue Squadron used to ruin the Lusankya's shit in the Bacta War.

I recall reading a book a long time ago that stated that a proton torpedo has approximately twice the yield of a concussion missle.

OR, it might also have been a video game. Possibly the N64 Rogue Squadron instruction manual?

Anyway, I can't remember where I read it, or if it was canon or not.

But I do remember that a proton torp is generally more powerful than a concussion missle (and from SD.net that proton torps are better at peircing shields while concussion missles do more damage vs hull).

Certainly not. I think that proton torpedo is a generic term, like laser or nuke. I mean, the proton torpedoes fired by Slave 1 certainly aren't the same kind of proton torpedoes that Rogue Squadron used to ruin the Lusankya's shit in the Bacta War.
The Slave 1 fired a concussion missle, not proton torpedo.

The yield of a torpedo in the X-Wing games is twice that of a concussion missile. That, however, is a game statistic, and therefore worthless.

The X-wing is perfect it cannont be made better and still stay the same.

The E-Wing would be the improvement of the X-Wing.

Yeah, Slave I was modified when Boba took over. The weapons suite is not the same. IIRC, Jango prefered to work from the shadows while Boba favored a more hard-hitting approach.

Ah well, it's irrelevant to the point. The point is that not all proton torpedoes are created equal or even with remotely similar yields.

Er I think you got it backwards. Boba got rid of those two 2 kiloton laser cannons that the Jango version had and added a single small ion cannon in their place leaving him with only the 600 gigajoule twin blasters and the missiles for raw fire power.

Easier to capture someone if you use ion cannon. He also had a different missile suite.

The only thing about the x-wing that should be improved is the vulnerability of the R2 unit. I'd prefer some armor for R2 or place the R2 unit internally behind the cockpit.

Is the R2 unit not used to repair damage during a mission?
They could remove the R2 unit and just install a droid brain otherwise.
