Newbie to Star Wars.

Okay, this is gonna sound a bit awkward considering my very large post count, but hey, what are post counts?

Anyways, what would be the best Star Wars book to start reading with? I would like to get more involved in this particular forum, but I need to know what's going on, obviously. Of course, I don't have the necessary funds as of yet, but I will get them as soon as I get a job.

Anywho, what is the best SW book to start with?

ver.

Star Wars: A New Hope.

Period. May as well start at the beginning.

Makes sense. Had no idea which was the "beginning." :D Thanks, Kelly.

Well, as far as the beginning of the entire franchise, yeah, that's the beginning. However, since you'll be reading in order...

A New Hope
Splinter of the Mind's Eye
The Empire Strikes Back
(the book whose title just flew out of my head with Dash Rendar and Prince Xizor)
Return of the Jedi
etc.

Must disagree with Kelly.

Don't read Splinter of the Mind's Eye. It's crap.

Start with the movies then read Zahn

Praise Zahn may his writing outlast time!

It isn't that bad. Then again, I read it when it FIRST CAME OUT. God, people are so fucking spoiled.

I read an extremely old copy back when I was in high school (some 8 years ago IIRC). I still thought it was crap. Given its extreme lack of meshing with ESB and ROTJ (an inevitable consequence of when it was written) I don't think it was worth re-releasing.

Sick of the OT? Or sick of seeing movies in general?

As for being 'spoiled', the EU hasn't spoilt me at all. I hardly touch it. I read the Zahn trilogy, the KJA trilogy (ack), courtship of princess leia, truce at bakura- realized they were mostly shit, and left it at that. Zahn is a good writer, but even then it wasn't THAT good. It did feel like SW though. The rest of it just seems like old dogs being dragged out for a beating again and again and again. The less said about NJO the better.

Sick of the SW movies in general. I think that covers it.

You forgot the Wraith Squadron books as well. The X-Wings written my Aaron Allston. They're great.

Honestly I say stick with Zahn and the Movies for a refresher course.

Stackpole has some shining moments just like Allston, but start with Zahn, then tempt Allston, then Stackpole................and maybe try the others, but a caveat....some royally suck.

God the time I have wasted...when I could've been doing...real things like making an alcoholic drink that seduces women by smell.

And as for Splinter's I too read when it came out...and ick...it did well considering what was available...but even then the final battle was a little too corny for my wee mind back then, and has not improved with age.

Why? Because I thought the movies were basically crap, and I enjoy reading. Besides, Star Wars is a vague interestr of mine, and I think it would be a good way to open up my Sci-Fi reading a bit.
