in the NJO, it was called moderate by leia, i think its possible that it produced ships from fighters to Frigates and Carrack type ships

Wow, the NJO mentioned it? Cool. It originally appeared in the Mandel blueprints, IIRC, thought it has since appeared in DK works ...

Erm.. its gets mentioned because it gets smashed to peices by the Vong, who decide that they might as well show off their ground troops...

Moderate, when large is described as "system spanning" (Kuat, in Iron Fist)

Gyndine is mentioned in Splinter of the Mind's Eye, during which Bin Essada was the Imperial Governor, under whose jurisdiction Mimban fell.

The NJO book in question just to help clarifiy things, is Agents of Chaos II - Jedi Eclipse.

Interesting. So its near Kuat level size. Even with half the construction bays as Kuat it would still be system spanning.

By the way, a single continuously linked band of stations and docks encircles Kuat's equator entirely and appears to outmass the Death Star II easily (ref: Coruscant and the Core Worlds).

It is never mentioned to be Kuat-sized, only moderate. Remember that the KDY home shipyards are the only ones we know of that surround the star in such a manner. All other examples of major SW shipyards have them as space yards orbiting a planet. Kuat isin't a "Large" shipyard, it is the "largest" shipyard in the Galaxy. The second largest shipyard in the galaxy, the CEC docks, are not system spanning, and Gyndine cannot be larger than the CEC yards.

Where are the CEC yards said to be second to Kuat? Fondor's yards were rather extensive.

Fondor is one of the many planets that specialize in starship constuction and repair. It is one of the oldest of these worlds, and its orbital shipyards are some of the most extensive and sophisticated in the galaxy, perhaps second only to the yards at Corellia and Kuat. (The Essential Guide to Planets and Moons; pg. 86)
Emphasis mine.

Fondor's yards, while extensive, are clearly smaller than those of the CEC. To more properly gauge its size, I'll have to read through a few chapters of Jedi Eclipse, which offer a description of the yards.
