During the time I lived at Ireland and US I was aware of Star Wars. I saw Star Wars toys, games, merchendise etc. But I had never seen the movies.
Then in 2001 I decided to watxh TPM. It was awesome and I liked it. Then I watched the original triology and was blown away. They were the best movies I ever saw.

I can't remember when I first watched Star Wars. I was young. REALLY young. I do remember I liked SW more than ESB, which I thought was too long and 'grey'. When I grew up however I came to realise that ESB was much better.
TPM was such an 'ants-in-my-pants' event. I was so happy SW would have another movie. Unfortunately it wasn't what I was expecting. And that's all I'll say about TPM.
I was also highly anticipating AOTC, even though I was also cautious. I have a love-hate relationship with AOTC. I can only hope that ROTS excels itself.
With the books I first read the BFC, but in hindsight I wonder why I collected it. Must have been the completist in me. When I eventually got my hands on the Thrawn trilogy it took off. Suddenly the SW story simply expanded beyond anything I'd expected.

I've been a Star Wars fan ever since A New Hope was shown on Swedish television in 1983. I was able to see ESB and ROTJ during their reruns in theaters in 1985, and from then on television and VHS as everyone else.
In my opinion, the 1997 Special Editions was a huge improvement and I was glad to see all three movies in cinema.
1999 TPM premiered, while my feelings are somewhat mixed about TPM, I like it. It's the worst episode of the Saga, but it has it good points (and I like Jar Jar
).
2002 AOTC premiered and it blew me away. Such a great movie, great storytelling, great effects and strong acting by Hayden Christensen (IMO a far better actor than Mark Hamill ever was, but Hamill was good in ROTJ).
As a Star Wars movie, AOTC outshines even ESB.
2004, the DVD's are released in Sweden tomorrow (Monday September 20). I've read about the changes made in various reviews, and can't wait to see them myself! The inclusion of Hayden in ROTJ is a terrific idea, and so is Ian McDiarmid in Empire. I can't wait to see it!
The anticipation for Episode III is also building up, and now it seems it has the potential to top AOTC.
I must say that I've never felt this much fandom as I do now.

I first watched them back when I was about 9 or 10. I wasn't really interested in them, but my family usually watched movies on Sundays back then, and I guess they felt it was time for the Star Wars trilogy.
So I saw them, over the span of three weekends, and thought they were nothing great. (In fact I was so bored by them, that it seems I invented scenes in my head that actually never happened. Can you believe I remember a light saber beam breaking in half?)
Fast forward a few years. I was about 13, and my Uncle gave me that old PC game "X-Wing Alliance", and I remember playing it non stop, for several months. So I decided to re-try the movies, and that was pretty much when I became the sci-fi geek that I am now. This happened to be around when TPM was coming to theatres, so I went to see it, and thought it kicked ass as well. I think I saw it a total of 5 times in theatres, and when it came to VHS, I watched it everyday for about two weeks.
That makes me one of those rare people who actually likes TPM. Although it doesn't measure up to the OT, or AOTC, and could be a lot better if Jar Jar didn't exist, it still is a pretty damned good movie, and the last half hour is non-stop action.

Saw it first run in my country back in either 1978 or 1979, can't remember correctly. I was either 5 or 6, respective of the years. Fell in love with it instantly. I still remember coming home and drawing some of the scenes (horribly, at that age) on a paper the next day.
Never lost track of it since.
Never.

I'm not sure how, but I suppose it involved me watching the films...
I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. I think I first saw the films when I was six or seven and have loved them ever since!

Arrr matey, I be seein' them on TV as a wee little one. I be most clearly rememberin' watchin' Ye Empire Strikes Back, specifically the snowpirates stormin' the mutineers. Avast, I be gettin' it confused with Star Trek, as I be watchin' ye Next Generation regularly then too. When ye Special Editions be comin' out, I be in 5th grade and learnin' the difference, that's when me started readin' the books and truly becomin' a Warsie.

LIke most people i'd seen the movies, though i'm too young t have seen ANH when it was 1st released. But I'd got all he tapes ans toys, the uniqueness of the stroy blew me away. But as i got older it seemed to slip away a bit for me. The when i was near the end of high school, in 1997 i think, i saw Heir to The Empire in the school library and my fan whorness was rekindled.

I have vague memories of going to ESB, I think it was the first movie I ever saw in the theater, and I was hook ever since. I remember waiting in line for ROTJ and being scared of the rancor and than wanting to be a Jedi for the rest of the school year. I've now watched all three OT movies so many times that if I put my head down while watching, my brain knows exactly what's happening, turns off, and I go right to sleep.
I anticipated TPM and frankly I liked it. It has problems and is surely not the best of the lot but I still like it. AOTC is good too. The first time I saw it, when Yoda started fighting, I actually said 'holy fucking shit' out loud. And then promptly started laughing my ass off.

Yarrrr! I be born at sea twelve years after ANH be shown to all ya landlubbers. Avast, I be another of ye sailors who be seein' it on TV as a young lad. I recall believin' Jabba ta be a giant sea frog, an' de Emperor a wizard. When I be in 4th grade, my family be providin' housing for a Mexican exchange pirate, and he be a skilled Star Wars seaman, and he smartly went to buy me Shadows of the Pirate Empire. It be a great tale, an' I be reading SW EU throughout my journeys on the seven seas. Avast, when ye Special Editions and TPM be comin' to theatres, I be likin' these fine works o' art. I lifted' me galleon's anchor an' sailed off to becomin' a Warsie Buckaneer!

My first recollection of anything Star wars is playing briefly with a broken X-wing toy from a yard sale when I was 4. I first remember seeing the movies when I was about 5 or 6 and I loved it from that point on.
Lol I remember at first I used not like watching the cantina scene in ANH because the the aliens who played in the band (the Bith) used to scare the crap outta me.

5 years old. Sitting with my family at home for friday night movies (we had no video back then, crap I feel old) Then the immense bulk of the ISD cruised overhead. My brother and sister started crying, and I remember after seeing the troopers kick in the door of the Tantive saying to my mum, "Can I be a Stormtrooper when I grow up?". Imperial ever since!
Ah well, another childhood dream that never came true

When I was really little I met a friend of the family who showed me part of Return of the Jedi, and I thought it was cool. A few years later I was at a Garage Sale as a little kid (what, six, seven, maybe eight?) and saw Star Wars tapes and grabbed them. The originals. Still have them today, after having watched them each like ten times

I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. When I was a little kid, I loved going to my grandparents' house to play with my uncle's Star Wars toys.

Back in the early 80s, when Star Wars first came out on VHS. I loved it.
R2-D2 was my first action figure!
Then, Return of the Jedi was the first movie I went to the movie theatre to see. I had a Return of the Jedi Lunch Box, Tote-Bag, Bed Sheets, Posters, Books, Magazines, Trading Cards, etc...

10-12 years ago I was in a large store waiting for my parents to buy stuff. ESB was playing on a small TV in the video section. I stood in front of it for an hour, watching. When my parents were finally going to leave, I forced them to buy the box set so I could see it all.
