orbital stun

In TOS Kirk uses ship phasers to stun a city block. Now star wars has stun weapons do you think star wars could do the same think with a large scale stun blast.

I doubt it could use something like a TL to stun an entire block... mainly because it would destroy and entire block. But I am sure SW has something that can do a mass stun, just not sure what.

Fun for the whole family. :D

EDIT: To be realistic, that is what the Empire would probably do.

I was reading Dark Empire II today and I read over the part where a smuggler ship fired its illegal ion cannons at one of the Emperor's pet beasts (the rancor types). It did something to it which I can't make out. Does anyone know if the blast killed it, stunned it, or what?

It seems like a ion blast would over load the electric signals in the body maybe stunning them. But then you can also kill by stopping the electrical signals. Seems like it would depend on the power of the ion blast.

A very weak ion cannon blast (and i do mean VERY weak), or chemical explosives, is what the Empire would do. If they wanted to do it. The Federation is much more concerned about civilian casualties- the Empire would probably just vaporize the block and the entire city of they felt like it.

Orbital stun would have very limited uses anyway. Even if you were to use one on Toronto with no warning one day, the majority of people do not have a direct line of sight to the sky. They're mostly indoors, and once they looked outside and saw scores of unconscious people, they would stay indoors, not to mention becoming very paranoid and making the area very difficult to approach. So you can't really expect to render an entire region helpless with an orbital stun blast, and that's for hapless civilians, never mind trained soldiers.
