Cloaking shields..

I was just reading through The Last Command as I took a nice dump, and I wonder why Thrawn didn't find other ways to use the cloaking devices?

I'm sure he could've easily used them to cloak some cargo, like HY bombs and managed to get them in close to do some real damage to Coruscant, such as perhaps shield installations, the Palace, etc and THEN launched the cloaked asteroid gambit. That way Coruscant would have been even MORE preoccupied, and probably a great deal more resources would be diverted to the capital.

Or use the cloaked dreadnaughts in more of his campaigns to quickly blow apart planetary shields, and then using C'boath's coordination quickly launch an attack force and withdraw the dreadnaughts quickly.

Oh hey, look it's 2:41 and already I learned something I didn't want to know.

Consider the expenditure for the return. Aside from the fact this was more cost effective, now the NR is just as secerative as the Empire about goings on. If Thrawn did that, he'd be killing unnecessarily (something he usually didn't do) and getting more bad PR.

Then he has to rebuild the shields before the rebels retake it. More costly, worse PR, more risks.

Ackbar explains why cloaked fleets aren't useful in one of the books. Not sure which one atm.
