Ok was watching a Phlanax on board a navy ship recently and was wondering if Star Wars could build something similar but with blasters for say Air Defence or Anti Infantry.

SW already has antifighter and anti infantry batteries, which isn't what the Phalanx CIWS system is for.

Oh, I see.

Yeah, SW already has those. They're called point defence laser cannons, which don't need to ejaculate such a shit-load of firepower just to take out a missile.

which aren't very effective at it if the X-Wing books are still official. (or is it low grade canon now?)

Thats what I was kind of think as in lot of the books you hears very little about anti missile or rapid fire anti fighter. I know there a Antifighter frigte or was it a corvette. But the Capital ships seemed to rely on fighters for defence. But then its been a while since I read the books so I might be a little off.

He might be refering to the video game-isms that are somewhat prevalent in those books.

Yes there is an anti fighter capital ship. It is called the Lancer frigate. IIRC this ship has 20 point defense laser cannons for taking out fighters. However lacking turbolasers it is not good against capital ships.
