I know about the Dark Lords of the Sith, Exar Kun, Palpatine, etc, who are later referred to as the Sith. But I would like to know more about the Sith race. Who were they? Did they have the Force? Do they still exist today?

Originally they were a race in the Outer Rim, who had no conection to any Force powers whatsoever.
What made them that way was a group of Jedi who began to explore the Dark Side, and left the Order to that particular area of the galaxy and subjegated the Sith race, and began to call themselves the Sith.
The Sith race are long since dead though.

All of this is off the top of my head, so I apologise for any inaccuracies.
The Sith were a reptilian race existing MANY years before the "Old" Republic. They were force adepts, but were mainly a race of religious zealots.
I don't recall exactly what happened but they were all but wiped out, but the Sith religious tradition was reborn by I think Naga Sadow some 5,000 years before the Battle of Yavin? Anyhow, he was allegedly a pure-blood Sith who based himself on Yavin and began experimenting on the natives. He is the first of the true "evil" Sith Lords.
*edit* Just fact-checked this with an old Star Wars fact-file that has collated fluff:
The sith WEREN'T wiped out, but Naga Sadow was exiled for attempting an uprising against the Sith council. No word yet on whether the Sith race really were force adepts... I'll keep checking around.

And the modern (in SW) Sith are followers of the Dark Side, though not necessarily of the Sith race (Darth Maul is Zabrack, Vader and Palpatine human).

From the EU (Pre-1999): A race of near-human aliens conquered by "Dark Jedi" (like 5,000 years or so before ANH). Eventually the term "Sith" became synonymous with the Dark Force cult that emerged (the aliens worshipped the Dark Jedi). Something about a "Sith Empire" and a great "Sith War" with the Jedi thousands of years before the time of the Original Trilogy (detailed in the Tales of the Jedi comics).
TPM Novelisation: A sect of Jedi Knights who left the order aproximately 2,000 years before the events of TPM, which set off a thousand year war. These renegade Jedi came to be called the Sith. They fought with the Jedi and amongst themselves until they were believed to have been wiped out (1,000 years before TPM). But, secretly a Sith named Darth Bane started the "rule of two" and the order continued in secret.
And as we know from the movies, the Sith Order officially died out with the death of Vader at the end of ROTJ. Though in the EU there were various people at various times who tried to "Revive" the Sith order, teachings or make claims to the title "Dark Lord of the Sith" post-ROTJ.
