Star Wars Trilogy DVD's: "Limited Release" ?

Just curious if anyone knows anything about this or if there has been anything said officially...

I've been hearing rumors that the OT DVD's out now are "limited release" or "limited edition" (I've seen a few web ads for them for the UK/Australia that give that impression). Supposedly they are going to be pulled from shelves sometime this year (possibly before Christmas).

Anybody know if this is true?

Wonder if this has anything to do with a planned new release (but if that's going to happen in 2007 as we've been hearing, that's 3 months of dvd sales and 3 years of nothing... odd marketing strategy?).

I assume that if it was going to be limited, they would have announced it. Disney makes it clear, as did Spielburg with the E.T. DVD release. Lucas was perfectly clear when he said that the THX videos were your last chance to get the original versions, so I imagine that the rumors are just that: rumors.

I assume that its related to Fox and Lucas saying that this is a filler release. The big one will be on the next gen format, with things like the deleted scenes. They might just mean that it won't be something they'll continue to roll out once the new one looms.

If this were anything but Star Wars, spending yet more money on it would bother me...for some reason, spending money on Star Wars always seems ok ;)
