Check it out, guys. Vympel contributed notes from the AOTC novelization, and I added a few screenshots for two of the most heavily disputed scenes in ANH: the nature of turbolaser/shield interactions and the destruction of Alderaan.

Actually, I suppose this might belong in PSW instead of SWvST.

The bit where Biggs speaks about the Empire's past glory is interesting. Maybe the Empire democraticaly came into power and the people loved it in the early days. ROTS should clear this issue.

What about the chapter 4 of AoTC novelisation (when Anakin and Obi are returning to Coruscant) where it is stated that a hyperjump cannot be modified once in hyperspace?

Vympel didn't include that in his quotes. You are always free to contribute that quote yourself.

Eh heck with it
Page 41 AoTC Paperback Novel:
There was little the Jedi could do about it now, of course, for a hyperspace jump couldn't be reset once the jump to lightspeed had already been made.

There was this what I noticed in ANH (this what I heard from the Movie dialoge)
ANH wrote:Luke:"It followed us"
Kenobi:"No It's short range fighter"
fact that Kenobi uses the TIE's range as proof of that couldn't have followed them counterdicts is proof that you can track objects in hyperspace (since the range of fighter is irrelevant if it can't track you anyway). This could also mean had it been a long range fighter could have followed them.

They do for me. Does anyone else have this problem, with the last two Deathstar pictures?

I can see them just fine.

Nope. I'm using the latest version of Opera.
But I have a suggestion for the first ISD shield pic. Could you add a pic showing the bolt being fired into the shield before it hit?

No Mike, they showed up just fine (I'm using IE6).

It may just be me, but how do you get the conclusion from the quote from the ANH novelization p. 178 that the Death Star generates power from a mass-energy conversion?
I read it as they have an equation for planet busting meaning that a planet that has X mass will take Y energy to destroy. (It probably looks a lot like the one on this site, too.) Something that adds to the variable power settings of Star Wars weapons theory. The Empire usually are very efficient so wasting energy on an overpowered Superlaser shot doesn't really seem like their style to me. Or am I just reading it wrong?

Resetting a course and altering.modifying an already-set course aren't the same thing.
Besides, its not
strictly true. There are devices that can be added to hyperdrives that allow for "alternate" preprogrammed courses to be taken.

The Empire generally favors brute force and major overkill

True enough. Just look at Alderaan. Way over what would be needed to destroy it, but just enough for a powerful demonstration. But I still wonder if even the Empire doesn't think about power usage. Hypermatter in the quantities the Death Star uses can't be cheap. Especially if you go around blasting planets on a daily basis.

I understand that...just actually slapping down the entry and where it was from in the AoTC novel.

If the shields were down (shouldn't be too hard, there must be a garrison of Stormtroopers SOMEWHERE on the planet...), three ISD's could wipe out the planet very quickly.
Or just build a very big nuke, or just poison the atmosphere, or...etc, etc.
But nooo...they have to blow up the ENTIRE thing! lol

We already know it's possible to follow a ship in hyperspace if you jump immediately after it and are close enough to detect its wake. See the Black Fleet Crisis, when the Teljkon Vagabond was followed in this manner by some overeager ex-Imperial Carrack.

and how is this a counterdiction to what I just said. It doesn't matter how track it, just that can (while WEG says you can't) (sub track ship by tracking their sound not by tracking the ship itself). What I said was just more proof to well known fact.

Missed a technical quote. *shakes fist*
My notes on TESB novelization are coming along alright as well

I cannot see the difference between altering-modifying and resetting after the ship is in hyperspace. At that point what is resetting if not alternating the destination and/or the path?
(All what Kenobi wanted to do was to emerge earlier from hyperspace (farther from Coruscant).)
Other thing:
In the walker reference (ROTJ p 122). Are you sure that that mentioned cannon refers to the cannon used by the carried soldiers, not by the vehicle itself?
