OT special effects

Let's just say that Lucas got it into his head to painstakingly go over every single, say, "space" shot in ANH, TESB and ROTJ- well, not go over- delete the lot of them, and reproduce them all in the style of TPM/AOTC/ROTS- not actually changing much, just replacing the old models etc. with CGI versions. Would you support it?
Two reasons I'd consider it:
1. He already started when he changed ANH's Battle of Yavin with many improved CGI shots.
2. The ROTJ battle doesn't have nearly enough capital ship action, in both numbers, scale and combat wise.
TESB is the film least in need of an SFX touchup.

I wouldn't. The CGI models haven't had the same visual grittiness that the classic Imperator had. Frankly, I don't trust Lucasfilm not to fuck it up.

The RoTJ battle.
For the Yavin battle, I don't see anymore needed, because the amount of X and Y wings is great and the sprucing up is perfectly fine.
For RoTJ, I would like....possibly just more combat. We get only fleeting glimpse of the battle, and there could just be more, and more variety...not just snub fighters, but seeing why getting in close to an ISD is near suicide.

As long as it used to bring forth his actual origional vision I wouldn't have too terrible a problem with it. I wouldn't mind seeing the B-Wings in action over Endor, and the AT-STs at Hoth.

Well. An extended battle of Endor could be re-shot using the original models, rather than pure CGI. I'd be better off with that. I don't like shoving a CGI version of a perfectly good model into a film...

Battle of Endor absolutely needs a makeover when you see what kind of battles they can put together from the brief clips of ROTS that we've seen. Imagine seeig the Executor being swarmed by rebel cruisers and rocked by heavy turbolaser fire? Otherwise I wouldn't touch a damned thing. There's a lot to be said about a movie nearly 30 years old whose effects still stand up to the test of time.

I´ve always thought the Battle of Endor could do with more starfighters and turbolaser fire. When I saw the menus on the OT extras DVD, with the fleet combat and starfighters racing back and forth, I thought "If a DVD menu-animator can cut and paste the old model footage and make it look semi-believable, how hard could it be to do this on a larger scale in the actual movie? Models for the cap ships and CGI for all the starfighters."

I want B-Wing action as was originally intended.

I'd like to see the Battle over Endor overhauled with fast-paced B-Wing action, and capship action, e.g. IDSs throwing broadsides into Rebel Cruisers, fighters getting cooked by turbolasers, and the Executor.

There were already AT-STs shown at Hoth in the original version of ESB.

They were probably intended to do something, hell, ANYTHING! And I still want to see ISDs and everyone's favourite Flagship kick ass and occasionaly get thier asses kicked like only Imperial ships can.

They were intended a much bigger "show case" role. By comparison, in the latest Episode III "Post Notes", George Lucas didn't like the way hte animators were introducing the ARC 170 fighters- he said it had to be like a car commercial, and that the angle they had chosen was unflattering. Once can presume a similar attitude to the B-Wings. See the SW.com "Behind the Scenes" databank entry for the B-Wing.

The whole slightly different Jedi Starfighter thing seemed like a transparent toy marketing idea to me.
I agree though, the B-Wings should have had more footage (read: ANY) since you only really see them go into and out of hyper and into battle config.
Always thought the Bubble Fighter intro. to
Lost in Space was how they should've done it.

Hmm? You mean Anakin and Obi-Wan's fighter in ROTS?

B-Wings were meant to be the fighters that took out
Executor.

Or at the least, they were intended to be featured taking out a Star Destroyer.

Was´nt it supposed to be the Comm Ship?

The communications ship was crippled in a duel with a rebel cruiser. The Falcon and Gold Group exploited its weakness to slip in and hit its power generators. It was destroyed, downing the jamming field and revealing the active state of the deflector shield.

And did the B-Wings figure prominently in the fighter-attack?

I would like additional and edited scenes. I would like to see edited scenes only if they simply add more volume of fire and more explosions and things like that, but not replacing physical models with CGI models. And completely new CGI scenes would be great. I'd like to see close-up shots of HTLs on both Rebel and Imperial capships, B-Wings, more starfighter dogfights, The Executor taking on multiple capships, and things like that.

Yes, I am aware of such, but they did not show all that was invisioned due to a malfunction on the set which screwed up some scene(s). The same goes for the B-Wings, they weren't shown as invisioned due to problems with the blue screens due to their shape. If the origional storyboards could be found, CGI could be used to rebuild what was lost.

They should just come out with limited edition, expanded "Battle of Hoth" and "Battle of Endor" in some future release of the DVD. Not as actual movie footage, mind you, but as special bonus footage.

It looks like the Endor battle will look even WORSE after ROTS, from what we've seen of the space battle. They really do need to change the sparse and light nature of the engagement.
