Weakness of TPM/AOTC: Editing?

Watching AOTC just now, something occured to me: maybe the "flaws" in these two films are less to do with the actors/directing and more to do with the editing choices. To explore this, I took the scene where Anakin and Padme are speaking by the fireplace (the "secret love" discussion) and edited it as I thought it should be edited. Granted, I'm biased, but I think it makes the scene a bit stronger.

In thinking about it, I thought that the entire movie might be suffering from something similar, in that too much extraneous stuff was left in while important stuff (such as the legitimizing scene with Padme's family) was taken out. I'm tempted to go and create an entirely new edit of AOTC, replacing certain deleted scenes and paring down other scenes, in order to create a "better" version. I don't have the time to do this, but it's fun to think about ;)

Anyway, for your viewing pleasure, here's the latter half of the edited Anakin/Padme scene in Sorenson QuickTime format. Comments/thoughts on this edit and this idea in general are very much welcome.

There's a bit of a glitch in Anakin's position in the last shot because I cut out some dialogue without bothering to re-composite. At 5am, it's too early to bother re-compositing and masking footage ;) I also need to find a better QuickTime audio codec. The freeware QDesignMusic2 is okay, but as you can clearly tell from this file, it could easily be better...

The pointless, cringe-inducing scene where Anakin is riding around on that creature that looks like nothing but a giant rectum should've been left out in favour for the family scene.

Not bad. I would personally leave in the last part where he says "it would destroy us" though, but thats just me.

Just out of curiousity which program are you using to edit?

Yeah, I think you're probably right. Initially it felt like too much, but when I pared down what Anakin was saying in the first half of the scene a little more, it felt like it might be okay to put it back in.
