ET a Jedi?
Do you think ET's powers really came from the Force? ET aliens were seen in the Senate of the Republic, so maybe he was a Jedi fleeing the Empire's purging of all Jedi and went back to Earth to see how it was doing.

It is a little know fact that lucas wrote the sequel for ET in which the Empire kills ET and learns the secret of earth and crushes it underneath it's war machine. Thus leading (somehow) to a Imperial victory at Endor.

Why do you doubt it? The only thing I can remember that made his powers any different from a Jedi's was the glowing. But the glowing could just be a trait of his species, maybe a special trait of his species when using the Force that little or no other aliens in SW have.

ET's powers differ significantly from those shown by Jedi. He appears stronger in some areas, such as telepathy and healing, than most Jedi, but he is significantly weaker in other areas, such as the ability to control the weak-minded.
Besides, if he was a Jedi, he should have had a lightsaber.

Like I said, he could have been fleeing the Empire's purge of Jedi, so anything could have happened to him. Plus, we don't know his/her's specie's age characteristics. For all we know, ET could be a child who has not fully learned the ways of the Force.

What I meant to say is that during the Empire's purge, he could have lost his lightsaber.

If that were the case, and he IS a Jedi, then I would be very surprised to see his level of telepathy. He lifted himself, and a number of cyclists to a considerable altitude. Also, even very young Jedi carry lightsabers (ref. AotC), indicating that if he were actually a Jedi-trainee, it would be unusual for him not to be carrying such a weapon. In addition, the telepathic link he formed with Eliot is not similar to anything that Jedi have ever been shown to form, except with other Jedi. Even then, such links require effort on the part of both bondees. I find it more likely that the powers ET showed were independent of the Force. One also wonders why a Jedi-Padawan would be left by himself on a strange planet without a master, or why his master never returned for him. Remember that Jedi trainees are very rare, and immensely valuable. If ET actually were a Jedi, it would strike me as being very unusual that no rescue attempt was made until later. Jedi are so important that their loss is generally considered unacceptable, especially on such simply botany exercises. Finally, if ET actually were a Jedi, I would have expected him to be able to protect himself more than he actually did. He certainly should have been able to hide himself more easily, particularly if he could later levitate himself, and he should have been able to cloud the judgement of his pursuers, had he needed to.IRG CommandoJoe wrote:Like I said, he could have been fleeing the Empire's purge of Jedi, so anything could have happened to him. What do you mean that young yedi carry lightsabers? Are you talking about the scene where Yoda is training the kids? Somehow, despite them being jedi, I doubt they have the self control yet to be allowed to go about with lightsabers without supervision.Master of Ossus wrote:If that were the case, and he IS a Jedi, then I would be very surprised to see his level of telepathy. NOTE: This is all mere speculation without evidence proving any of my theories. So don't say the burden of proof lies upon me, because I'm not proving my theories are real, just trying to point out that there is nothing that disproves my theories.
What if different species develop different Force abilities at different times? We see humans and other aliens being trained by Yoda training in the same excercise. This proves nothing about them having the same phases of training. Maybe that is one excercise humans and aliens in that room at different ages (you can't tell what age the aliens are, only the humans) share together. This is even forgetting ET's species and all of the other species not represented in that room. We have no idea at what age they can do this excercise. Luke's training doesn't prove anything. He is a human. So there is no proof that they require the same training at different ages. Therefore, ET doing all of the other feats that no other Jedi at a lower level of training can do is entirely possible. If that were the case, and he IS a Jedi, then I would be very surprised to see his level of telepathy. He lifted himself, and a number of cyclists to a considerable altitude.
If the Empire was purging the galaxy of all Jedi in a war, lightsabers will most likely get lost! Hence ET's species' fleeing the galaxy to go to Earth. Also, even very young Jedi carry lightsabers (ref. AotC), indicating that if he were actually a Jedi-trainee, it would be unusual for him not to be carrying such a weapon.
If there is a link between the SW galaxy and our galaxy, then the Force has to exist in our galaxy. If that is the case, maybe the Force is strong within humans, but they never knew how to use it.In addition, the telepathic link he formed with Eliot is not similar to anything that Jedi have ever been shown to form, except with other Jedi. Even then, such links require effort on the part of both bondees. I find it more likely that the powers ET showed were independent of the Force.
Stupidity. One also wonders why a Jedi-Padawan would be left by himself on a strange planet without a master, or why his master never returned for him. ET WAS able to protect him/herself more than what he/she did! ET had the potential to with his/her powers, so I don't understand this argument. If Obi-Wan did a crappy job of protecting himself and demonstrated abilities that would have enabled him to protect himself, would that exclude him from being a Jedi? Finally, if ET actually were a Jedi, I would have expected him to be able to protect himself more than he actually did. He certainly should have been able to hide himself more easily, particularly if he could later levitate himself, and he should have been able to cloud the judgement of his pursuers, had he needed to.

Well, according to the books, those are "training lightsabers." They're designed to be able to stop small arms fire, but not to be able to cut anything. They are given to the young Jedi to learn, but later the Jedi must build their own, full-power lightsabers as a test to become full-fledged Jedi.neoolong wrote: What do you mean that young yedi carry lightsabers? On ET's lack of lightsaber:
Lightsabers could actually be hard to use for some species.
For example - species with long, inflexible necks such as Quermians and Kaminoans. Now, these could easily decapitate themselves while trying to perform certain lightsaber maneuvres.
Or perhaps ET just left his lightsaber aboard his parents' starship.

Still it's like giving a little kid a baseball bat and saying have at it. I don't think they were allowed to keep them until they grew up a bit. E.T., if in that group, probably wouldn't carry a lightsaber.Master of Ossus wrote:Well, according to the books, those are "training lightsabers." Of course, carrying a lightsaber makes one a target so E.T. could have left it behind for safety reasons.
