Kamino foreshadowing to Cloud City?
I don't know if this has been brought up before, but anyway
I just thought the Kamino could be a bit of foreshadowing to ESB. Heres a list of the similarities I found
1) Obviously, Tipoca City and Cloud City look the same. Both discs on top of stalks. And both are in extreme environments. One nearly sunk into the ocean, and one high above in the clouds.
2) Both are populated by one or more Fetts
3) Both hold a hidden danger, and a secret deal. As we'll learn later on, the clones that seemed to helpful in AotC will eventually be turned to nefarious uses. The clones were ordered in a secret deal. And a major character lies to get to his own ends (Obi-Wan).
On Cloud City, it seems like a safe haven. Yet the Falcon is sabotaged, and the heroes are captured. All of this is due to a secret deal involving Lando, Fett, and Vader. And Lando lied to Han to further his own ends (Basically, pretending to be someone he's not)

Whereas with Kamino, Obi-wan KNEW he was probably heading in for something dangerous. (He's going after a hunter, after all). I always wondered, how exactly was Obi-Wan expecting to take Jango back? I woulda liked the alternate ending where Obi-Wan wins and stuffs Jango in the spare parts holdIG-88E wrote:Whereas with Kamino, Obi-wan KNEW he was probably heading in for something dangerous. He was probably going to knock out Fett and keep him in a coercive Force trance (coma-like state possible according to Stackpole and Zahn). Then maybe he'd steal Slave I and snatch up his fighter using a tractor beam or magnetic clamps (Shadows of the Empire) or something.

I agree there are a few similaritys but not enough to make something out of it.Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. Smi wrote:They may resemble each other, but I don't think LA was aiming for similarities.

Any parallel is merely superficial, in my opinion... the look of the cities and their locations ("extreme environments"). But whereas Cloud City was supposed to look like a paradise, Kamino seemed a lot more like a hospital... the former was clean and pristine, while the latter was... utterly sterile.

He probably would have taken Slave-I. It is a better ship anyways.pecker wrote:I always wondered, how exactly was Obi-Wan expecting to take Jango back? Nah,Kamino on the inside seemed more like Area 51 to me.... I think it were the grey aliens who did it.SPOOFE wrote:Kamino seemed a lot more like a hospital... the former was clean and pristine, while the latter was... utterly sterile.

I think Lucas meant the Kaminoans to be essentially creepy, which is why he used the Grey tempalte. But he also wanted them a litle softer, so he added some attributes of baby seals.Simon H.Johansen wrote:Nah,Kamino on the inside seemed more like Area 51 to me.... Yeah, I've read that on the SW website. However, the Kaminoans don't appear that seal-like to me. To me, they look rather cetacean. (ie, I think that they're descended from whales)pecker wrote: I think Lucas meant the Kaminoans to be essentially creepy, which is why he used the Grey tempalte. BTW, when discussing Kaminoan anatomy, I've somehow wondered how Kaminoans can move their limbs at all, as they appear to have no musculature at all. (their limbs appear to be nothing but bone, sinew and skin) Perhaps Kamino has very low gravity, or the Kaminoan anatomy is very different from.
(the Kaminoans are not the first SW aliens to defy laws of nature - so does Watto, who's a Toydarian according to the Visual Dictionary)

Since when has scifi totally obeyed laws of nature?

Actually, I gotta admit that most sci-fi writers give realism second priority or either don't worry about it at all. (for example - I have only seen three Sci-Fi movies yet which depicted space as a vacuum)Vertigo1 wrote:Since when has scifi totally obeyed laws of nature?
However, it would be nice to see a space opera which actually was realistic and true to the space opera formula at once!!!!
