This is probably old, but I saw it posted on epguides.com (as an explanation in the Clone Wars section by a poster). Posted here for your convenience:

Another theory as to how lightsabers might work.

From skimming through it, completely contradicted by canon and official facts.
Funny how he calls it a "popular theroy", considering I've never heard of such nonsense.

Unlike what is generally thought, and even sometimes taught, the construction and workings of a light saber are not secret. So, you might wonder, what is keeping a galaxy-wide firm like Jax-Bethal from mass-producing them, so we can all merrily and effortlessly slice off members from our enemies? The answer is simple: the power supply in the handle. Traditional technology could easily make the blade part, but without the multi-Gigawatt Force-operated hand-controlled power supply in the handle it would just be a coil of high-grade glass in a metal-and-ceramic casing.

You'd figure these morons would read the ANH novelization. According to Obi-Wan, the lightsabre was still in use in some remote corners of the galaxy, and it was not always a weapon specific to Jedi.

Interesting due to its originality, but:
the filaments are so thin and so far apart (relatively speaking), that beams from energy weapons hardly affect them and just pass through.
Has this guy watched ROTJ? So much for blaster bolt reflection.

It's a neat thought experiment but does not fit what we canonically know about lightsabers.

It doesn't even fit what a Lightsaber looks like. The thing is luminous, so IT ISN'T JUST LIGHT!

I like that he seems to automatically assume that lightsabre operation somehow involves a laser, rather than just going with a more likely exotic form of operation.
