Altered Dialogue in original triology

Just watched some of the original trilogy on DVD, and was just curious about a few things. First, it seems to me that they not only altered certain scenes (in addition to the added scenes), but flat out changed dialouge for no apparent reason.
Case in point, in TESB, on Dagobah after R2D2 is spit out by whatever creature it is in the swamp, look says to him "You're lucky to get out of there". I could have sworn that this line was "You're lucky you don't taste very good". In addition, 3PO seems to have alot of dialouge added/changed in TESB.
Anyone know if there was a specific reason for these changes or was it simply done for the hell of it?

Alternate audio-tracks used. No reason why.

They explain it either in the documentary or in the commentaries. In any case, different versions of the film (at original release) had different sound mixes depending on the kind of speakers they were targeted at (surround, stereo, mono, etc). For the VHS release of the OT, they went with the one that included "It's alright, trust me" from Han in ROTJ and "You're lucky you don't taste very good" from Luke in ESB. In the SE and DVD releases, they went with (I think) the original surround track, which had instead "It's alright, I can see a lot better" and "You were lucky to get out of there."

So, in addition to putting up ol' Ian in ESB, did they also change what he said? I got the distinct feeling they did.
And damn it, that accent Boba now has really stood out to me. And was annoying. Gargh!

Yes, they did. If I had my DVDs here in CT with me, I'd put up a comparison for you.

I actually never noticed the difference in Boba's dialogue, or at least only slightly.
Still, from what I COUKD distinguish, I liked the old voice better.

When they were changing lines and adding new ones, they should've recorded JEJ saying something mean to dub over Vader's weird fist shake in ANH.

He's meant to do that without a script. THere was a fly on his hand and he was shaking it off.

For a pretty good run-down of dialouge changes in the various versions, check out DVDAnswers.com. They've got three articles (one for each movie of the trilogy).

So I finally got around to seeing RotJ this morning. And all I can say is...
Why, George, why? It's not so much Hayden in and of itself in that scene, but just look at that expression on his face! And it looked like shit, with him fading in and all, instead of just panning over to show him.
Yuck. Worst thing this side of Greedo shooting first (which is somewhat better this time around, as it's almost like they shoot at the same time...though Greedo's "accuracy" is still appalling)

It's funny when I saw the scene...the thought flitting through my mind was "Anakin is checking out Leia's fine booty and rack."

I thought he looked creepy, and it fits, with him having spent the last 20 years terrorizing the galaxy and all.

That pan is not in the Widescreen version, that was made because of the retarded Pan & Scanification of the video-releases and TV presentation. In other words, Anakin always faded in, it´s just a different actor now.
