Improved design for a battle droid

It would be more like a mini tank-like machine with I-bot type wheels for mobility on stairs, since the humanoid droids are a stupid fragile idea for combat. Probably would take up a cubic meter and armed with a full auto blaster. Each would be fully sentient, but needs to be reset every 48 hours for safety reasons. The droid would be armored heavily with a small shield generator.

I think droids would be a lot more efficient if they were programmed to use tactics other that just running towards the Jedi with guns blazing, standing in one place and blasting away... Have them strafe, find cover, or something like that...

Yeah that's why I made the droids unable to repair and refuel themselves but sentient. That means they cannot rebel and survive, since they will run out of fuel, since they have no hands and such, only a little turret. No need for mind wipes, and the capability of learning is valuable. For rough terrain there are pop out wheels, and if the terrain is too rough just use standard droids.

By the way, this is the ibot-

So basically a droid with the A.I. of a Quake bot. :D

48 hour reset? What if they get into a battle, and need to stay longer than that? Besides, what usefull information can they learn just in 48 hours?
How about AI, yes, but a huge library of tactics? That way, the droid would be like the chess games, evaluating several given tactics in a fraction of a second, and choosing the most adequate. Instead of the short 48 hour time-span, give it an annual "house-cleaning".

To me, an ideal battle-droid would be a small, spider-like robot that's armed with some sort of blaster-turret on top, and/or a heat-ray between its "mandibles."

A bit like the Necron Scarabs from Warhammer 40K, but far shootier.

No, the ideal battle droid is a mouse droid with a thermal detonator inside.

But it can be rather limited in use.

Yes, but very, very funny.

I meant the 48 hours is the period of time before it runs out of power and the batteries need to be recharged, or refueled, or whatever. Memories would probably be stored in nonvolatile storage, so the droids can be shut off when not in use.

Maybe the first version scarabs that fucked any electronics near them. Ah the fond memories of sitting them on tanks. Joy Joy Joy

Slap some Droideka shields on a Darktrooper, and you have one of the best battle droids I've ever seen.

I'm suprised the Jedi didn't do anything like use an EMP generator... The droid armies would be massively screwed.

Because the Drodis were probably shielded from EMP.

But how can you be sure? The TF isn't exactly the smartest combative group.

Droid starfighters lack shields. Yet they weren't affected by the EMP blast (assumig there was one) from Proton Torpedoes in Ep. I.

Also, we've never seen a droid affected by EMP.

1: since when do protorps emit an EMP?

2: because we've never seen one used.

Proton torpedoes use nuclear warheads. Set one of those off in space and you get a big EMP pulse.

I don't think they're nuclear weapons. They appear to use some other version of high-explosives to create a 250-750 MT (upper limit), directed blast. That's pretty tough with a nuclear payload.
