If you saw the New Trilogy first would you like the OT?

This occured to me earlier as these are VERY differently done stories, one focusing on the peple the other on how many cool effects they could get in.

What do YOU think.

Ask that after Ep III comes out.

In a sense it would be a little slow and cumbersome b/c of the special effects being old... That assumes though that I make it past TPM 8)

Assuming, I'd survive TPM and AOTC, I would like the Old Trilogy because they are is Lennox, Piett, Palpatine, Vader, Tarkin, SSDs, ISDs, TIEs, Stormtroopers, Death Stars etc

If I were to watch the stuff in order, quite frankly I would have given up after TPM. An AWFUL, AWFUL movie. If not for the franchise most folks on this board would have lambasted that turd mercilessly.

You know, watching the new movies and then the OT spoils any suprises in the OT. You're going to learn that Anakin Skywalker who becomes Darth Vader is Luke and Leia's father. You're going to know this in ANH when Obi-Wan "lies" to him. You're going to know this in ESB before Luke is told. You're going to know this everytime Luke and Leia become "close" and kiss stuff before Leia finds out in ROTJ. The movies weren't meant to be seen this way, and I would probably still see them, but they won't be a good as a whole.

It wouldn't make much sense, because the new trilogy gives away most of the stuff in the OT, and you have a piece of the plot gone. The OT wouldn't be as dramatic. It would be impossible to remake them so the audience isn't expecting Vader to say "Luke, I am your father".

You know, you could give some people a chest of gold, and all they would do is complain how heavy it is.

For twenty years, fans have been clamoring, begging and pleading for George Lucas to give us the rest of the movies in this series that he promised us, because they really loved the first trilogy and really, really wanted to see more of that universe.

So when he finally goes and does it, all these same fans can do is bitch and moan about how it "ruins" the first trilogy, because the new films don't live up to their impossibly high expectations.

If I were Geo. Lucas, I would probably throw up my hands in disgust at this point, and not even bother to make episode III.

Thinking about it a bit more, putting the PT first could add some drama to it. For example, you won't know that Anakin Skywalker will become Darth Vader, or Palpatine will become emperor.

or that anakin would oust palpatine - the coolest scene in the 6 movies.

I mean, you see him go evil for the previous 60 yrs, then he turns back. amazing stuff.

I'm reserving my final opinion till Episode 3 comes out, but I have to say that Star Wars would have NEVER done as well as it has if Lucas had released Episode I first. However, I must say that although Episode I was aweful (mainly because of Jar Jar), it was necessary because it adds to the overall story arch. If you had skipped Episode I and went straight to Episode II, you'd be like WTF?! Who are these people?!

But it ruins the drama. The part where Vader tells Luke is supposed to be a suprise and dramatic. If you already knew it, it spoils it. The same thing with Leia.
