In this scene after shoving Luke into the Taun-Taun He goes to the pack and pulls out what looks like tent poles for a survival shelter. Of course setting up a tent in a blizzard would end up with pretty much a snow cave in a matter of minutes. Regardess it appears that basic survival grear is standaerd equiptment for the mounts of the Rebels. Han also appeared to have a field radio andother equipment. The tent made of high tech fabrics could easily have had a small heater included to help with the cold.

Anyway Han had to have something with him to give basic first aid to Luke to help him make it through until morning. This would include lightweight blankets to alow him to warm up Luke's body quickly. Luke may have been hurt but the real danger to his life was the cold.

And I thought they smelled bad on the outside...

(Is it just me being up at 5am, or does this thread lack any sort of question or subject of analysis? I normally don't leave a post without something to add, maybe I'll just reread it and add a relevant observation...)

...

Yeah.

I guess my point is that the Rebellion has as good or beter winter survival gear than the US military. I also like how as far as survival gear goes the Star Wars Universe uses what many would call low tech solutions to such problems.

... they do that for everything. Increased reliablity and redundancy.
