Should Lucas be removed before he ruins SW completely?

Lucas is quickly becoming the B&B of SW, with the way
he keeps running roughshod over SW canonicity with
his "remakes" and ignoring elements from the EU.

Newsflash, George, you gave people like Tim Zahn
the RIGHT to develop your universe further, so you
have the RESPONSIBILITY to at least keep the universe
COHERENT, rather than use contrived deus ex machina
handwaving to erase large parts of the EU....

SW is rapidly approaching Plot Hole levels approaching
Boobyprise....

Lucas should stick to technical aspects of the movies, while letting someone else coordinate the directing, dialogue, and acting.

Yeah, his latest comment that all stormies are clones is bullshit!

He had the capability to make them all clones in 1977 by putting out
a casting call for people of a SPECIFIC height to act as the
stormtroopers, as well as dubbing their voices....and now he wants
to go back and retroactively edit them?

I could care less about the validity of most of the EU. Some of it is worth saving but not most of it.

I do worry about Star Wars for different reasons. I don't think the prequels fit with the orginals very well is some respects. And the prequels just haven't left me with that Wow! experience like the original did. I remember walking out the SE movies and feeling truly inspired. TMP lacked that, AotC didn't have it either but I left loving the movie and feeling really excited.

And it's not just the age difference. I still feel stirred watching the OT and I felt the same way at Fellowship of the Ring. The prequels just haven't measured up in my opinion.

Yeah, Save Tim Zahn's Novels, the Bounty Hunter Wars by KW Jeter,
the Han Solo Trilogy by AC Crispin, and of course all of the Aaron Alliston
X-Wing Books....

But this is what has me worried about the Clone Wars:

http://www.starwars.com/eu/news/2002/11 ... 21115.html
For 25 years, Star Wars fans have wondered about the Clone Wars. With the release of Episode II, audiences witnessed the events that started that epic conflict, and now want to know what happens next.

Starting next year, LucasBooks is chronicling these historic events through a publishing program that covers the span of the Clone Wars. Through comics, adult novels, middle grade fiction, audio books, short stories and more, the story of the Clone Wars will unfold.

Clone War titles will be identified on the cover (for example, "A Clone Wars Novel"), marking it as one piece in a much larger puzzle. Some stories will describe the victories, losses and stalemates of the epic war. Others will use the Clone Wars as a dramatic backdrop to tell different types of tales. The publishing program will give fans a clearer picture of what has transpired between Episodes II and III in time for the next Star Wars film in 2005.
Shit, looks like Lucas is going to let a fuckload of authors run rampant.

And then ignore them when Episode III comes around, blowing SW continuity
all to hell....again.

I think that Lucas's A.D's need to step up. Also, he needs a co-writer and his producer needs to have more of a voice. It is Lucas's baby and he has some good ideas. However, he does have many dumb ideas too. I'm just hoping that Ep. III, being the last movie, will have no expense spared and will kick a great deal of ass.

Hey, I agree with Shep! What do you know.

I agree completely. I prefer Zahn to GL now, and I disregard Lucas' DVD comments since they are, not in the movie, and not canon in my view. Besides, his ideas are getting worse, and he brought back Jango just to appeal to the tastes of the rabid Boba fans. You're right Shep.

Ah let em. They can fuck the EU over three ways from friday and it wouldn't bother me. I'm a fan of the movies. The whole thing about the stormtroopes is something. I always figured they were clones, I also never payed to much attention to thier heights to know if there was a difference. It cant' be off by that much.

Zahn's work, some of Stackpole's work, the old Sith War comic series, Dark Empire, Crispen's work, and Allston's work I all love, so I have bad feelings about GL's nonsensical horseshit polluting the continuity. All-clone stormies don't even make sense from a logistical and common-sense point of view, there's no way the manipulative controlling Palpatine had any reason to waste so much making clone stormies. Then again, GL's one of those people who thinks Hitler was an evil genius, so....GL doesn't strike me as one who keeps his own vision internally consistent. Which he hasn't.

Zahn's EU is better then the prequels in my opinion, and I'd rather can the prequels and let Zahn write them then invalidate his work which was much better. Hell, the way Zahn paints the Clone Wars in his trilogy you get a "whoa, that was a big war" feeling. Now we're left with a two-year set of "wars" that's a turkey shoot between Boba-copies and robots. I didn't see this shit on the horizon.

I think that while GL can justly claim the moral rights to the SW universe, he's been a terribly irresponsible master of it. He authorizes the expansion of the universe by various authors, doesn't really give them much to work with as far as continuity goes, and then sweepingly contradicts the work of talented authors that HE authorized for lack of research. He really needs to have a personal staff of people versed in the EU who can at least brief him on the damage he is doing to continuity before he does it.

And Shep; I'm not too worried about the Clone Wars novels (Matthew Stover is a GREAT SW author, and the character of Mace Windu deserves a novel). Shatterpoint ought to be a good novel.

What about the OTHER stuff? We've seen how they'll let ANYONE write
EU books, including KJA, and they're doing KIDDIE books that will
be official, for fuck sake!

Lucas is simply trying to make as much money as possible, eschewing
making a small core group of novels and comic books that will have
EXCELLENT plotlines and continuity, for a morass of shit that will stink,
but will MAKE MORE MONEY.

Lucas doesn't really care. I've felt this way for some time which is why I ignore his out-of-universe commentary. Who really cares what he has to say if he didn't put it in the movie?

By the way: Zahn's writing a prequel novel. Let us all hope he cleans shit out.

Yeah
Scholastic Inc. will continue to explore Boba Fett's youth in its series of middle grade books. Already, the first two hardcover books of the series take place in the days after the Battle of Geonosis. These two books (The Fight to Survive and Crossfire) will be released in paperback as part of the Clone Wars series, and will continue with the third book, Maze of Deception by Elizabeth Hand.

Hell, the way Obi Wan talks about the Clone Wars in ANH, along with
Tim Zahn's idea, left me with the idea of the bad guys using endless waves
of clones to fight the Old Republic, forcing the Old Republic under palpatine,
to start cranking up the Machinery Of Opression enacting the draft, and
it was so gradual, and the Jedi were so focused on fighting the clones, that
they didn't notice they had been defending a dictatorship until too late....

Exactly Shep. Look at the haunted look in Ben's eyes when he recalls the Prequel Era. The way it should've been according to the OT and Zahn would've been brilliant. Unfortunately Lucas is becoming a crank.

This is a very good point. I'd forgotten about it. So, apparently, has Lucas.

Lucas is FULLY AND COMPLETELY RESPONSIBLE for letting the EU get dragged
down in crap. Apparently he now only cares about money and the latest
technological whizbang toys than making sure that the stuff that bears the
imprimatur STAR WARS is GOOD, not SHIT.

I know, TPM certainly didn't have the epic feel of the fellowship of the ring.

Ah, a man of taste and discretion. I'd save Stackpole's X-wing novels and I,Jedi (not brilliantbut decent) but fuck the rest.
