FP-31 Firespray Questions

Okay, the FP-31, which has become a favorite of mine even before I read the "5-minute comparison" with Star Trek that showed that Boba Fett's ship by itself was an overmatch for the Enterprise-D....
In Attack of the Clones, during the asteroid fight with Obi-Wan, Jango Fett fires cannons that seem to be mounted on the middle section of the Slave-I-- just below the cockpit window.
Now on every single cutaway, official drawing, and so on that I've seen of both the Fett-modified Slave-I but stock FP-31s, I never see mid-mounted cannons, only the big chin cannons. I've watched the fight several times and I'd swear on a stack of 'Incredible Cross Sections' that the fire is coming from someplace in the middle of the hull 'face'.
Also--
I am of the understanding that the Slave-I as we see it in Jango Fett's time is a relatively stock MandalMotors FP-31 [Firespray. The ship does not get extensively modified until Boba has had it for a few years, when Kuat of Kuat oversees the modifications.
These modifications include an ion cannon and tractor beam, for example, but I've seen no mention of a mine dropper-- so was that stock equipment?
Any one else notice this stuff? T'anks.

Maybe they're retractable?

Nitpick: The Firespray-class is made by Kuat Drive Yards. Its the Pursuer (Slave II) that was by MandalMotors.
IIRC, Jango had modified it rather extensively, although not as much as Boba eventually would.

perhaps Jango added the mid-mounted cannons, deviating from the origional fire-sprey specs and then Boba removed them to make room for something else.

According to the RPGs, the Stock Firespray has only the rapid fire blaster cannons at the tail. No missiles or anything.

Pin pon!! Exactly that. as shown in the film and in the AotC ICS.

Yeah, I haven't watched AotC in over a year...

Shown how? I freeze-framed it and everything, all I was able to confirm was that the fire was coming from the mid-face instead of the chin guns. It was easy to reason the must be retractable, but aside from "they're firing so they must be there" and "smooth hull" in th efew places I see the ship up close and at rest.... I can't detect anything to indicate pop-out guns.

The ICS clearly shows both the guns and the retractable plates that cover them.

Boba would later replace one will a concussion missile launcher and the other with an ion cannon.

The guns are also in the OT ICS; if you look carefully below the cockpit, there are eight, four to a side, with doors above each that apparently fold back to fire. They're described as ion cannon (? vague memory). Someone want to back me up?

The guns are entirely internal, and when the flaps hiding them open, you can't really see them. Flaps begin to open 1:08:00-01. If you're looking at them and going slow, you can't miss it. Hard to post a picture of it without going through every frame, though, and it's still hard to catch if you aren't looking at them in a slideshow. I wish I could get a good shot of them from 1:08:05, but there's too much motion blur. Even so, the area around the flaps is quite clean coming out of the asteroid...

but once the guns have been fired they are clearly covered in black residue.

Yeah, I know it's not the same side, but they're the best two pics I could get, and checking the other scenes I'm pretty sure I'm right about the residue.
There's another image that might depict the gun itself from the front, but it's too blurry to be sure.

This seems an appropriate time to ask- how do you take screenshots off of a DVD?

Either you use a capture card hooked up to a DVD player, or you use a high enough version of something like WinDVD or Power DVD that allow you to take screenshots.

According to Star Wars Bounty Hunter, The Slave One was never a stock firespray is it was one of six special Firespray superior commisioned by the prison asteriod Ovoo Four.
Which would also help explain why Slave One was 'one' before there were any others. All the prison ships were called slave.
Incidently Jango vaped all the other Firespray superior on his way out the prision. (He was pissed cos one of them vaped his maladorian ship he got off Jaster Mereel)

Cool! Thanks! And thanks for the info about screenshots, Spanky, I was wondering myself. The images provided by Alan Bolte were the ones I saw on my DVD and was trying to pause and examine.

damn that CrazedWraith kid did it before me but yeah i was going to say that the FireSpray that Jango gets is in the Ovoo prison ship astroid whatever it was. Its in that level in Bounty Hunter (my favorite SW game until the KOTORs) And if im correct the "leader" of that level was a FireSpray that you were fighting? anyways it was a pain in the backside
yeah so i was thinking that these Firesprays may have been outfitted to begin with by being able to chase and overpower any really bad dudes
