Do you think the deleted scenes from AOTC should have been edited back in for the DVD release?

Some maybe.

The dining room scene and the bedroom scene had some nice plot points. That and I liked what Amidala was wearing.

Oh yeah, it also helped flesh out the characters a bit.

sure, why not
put all deleted scenes back into all of the movies, and while we're at it, add new scenes to double the length of each film

I still want to see the discussion in the archives about Dooku and the lost twenty. There's also the scene when the Jedi attack the DCS. Why weren't those put on the DVD?

Oh yes,

WHERE'S MY FUCKING SPACE BATTLE!?

Some should go back in, while a similar amount of footage is edited out and all the additional battle footage is added.

Amen, brother.

I think the scene were Anikin and Padme were at her moms and dads was a good one that helped the story along, that and the one were Dooku talks with Padme on Geonosis.

There need to be five major scene alterations:

1) Padme Addresses the Senate needs to be in
2) Padme's House needs to be in.
3) Padme's Bedroom needs to be in
4) The cow ridding scene (not the talking in the field part) needs to be out.
5) The "I'm a genocidal maniac, hold me" scene needs to be out.

The first scene does a great job of highlighting the tension between Padme, as an opponent to Palpatine unknowingly, and of producing a set of quesitons about why Jar Jar did what he did. The next two scenes are some of the best character development bits between Anakin and Padme, also the acting in them was far superior to many of their other scenes.

The two scenes that need to be out are just plain horrible. For the first one my first objection is that it is just SO fake, you can tell its a computer gneerated cow thingy and secondly the only conneciton it has to the storyline at ALL is when Anakin rides the beast in the arena and THAT is better explained with his Force Powers (TM) which we see the visual indicaiton for. The other scene is just the most wretched unthoughout scene in the whole movie. Anakin just confessed to MASSS MURDER, killing women and children, Padme who deplores violence somehow thinks this is the perfect time to cuddle him? WTF?

I wanted to see the Jedi Boarding party scene originally planned.

No. Going by the cut scenes on the DVD there was a very good reason they were cut. They sucked, badly. Only the senate scene and the family scenes on the DVD were even close to being worthwhile and they were not needed.

I'm just glad the Mace/Obi-Wan scene got cut that with some of the other stuff in the film makes it look like Obi-Wan just wants rid of Anakin! Not quite what Lucas was after methinks.

I mostly agree with you. I could live without the scene where Padme addresses the Senate but I agree with you completely about the rest.

I liked all of the scenes at Padme's house. Some where better than others (the bedroom was a little weak) but the ones with her family were good and showed us why she might be so inclined to fall for Anakin at that time.

I may be wrong but didn't the DVD make the "Mass Murder Confession" scene a little longer? I didn't remember the part about him saying he's a Jedi and should be better than this.

The cow thing was really stupid, and fake. Besides bookending with the stuff in the arena the "cow" gives us a close-up of the animals that run off at the begining of the Battle of Naboo in TMP. Not really something I had to see, and since it looks bad and ends up cheesy...just leave it out.

I kind of liked some of the stuff they showed in the Obi-wan/Mace scene but it was fine the way it ended up in the film.

Did anyone happen to notice the additional "cut scene" that's on the DVD, that wasn't in the movie release.

At the end of the scene were Anakin and Padme are in the garage and Anakin confesses to killing all the Tusken's, there were two lines of dialogue that were included on the DVD but not listed as a deleted scene. Padme says "to be angry is to be human" and Anakin replies "I'm a Jedi, I know I'm better than this".

I cross checked with my bootleg copy of ATOC on my computer that I dled after the movie came out. Wasn't in the theatre version. I guess it was such a short addition that it wasn't listed in the deleted scenes section. Although I have no idea why they cut it out. Anakin is acknowleding his flaws.

I was actually asking about that in the post above yours. I wasn't sure if I'd miss-remembered what I'd seen in the theater. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

My alterations would be different.
  1. Leave Padme's Senate address out. It helps the plot but it's tedious and uncomfortable.
  2. Cut the decision to send Anakin and Obi-Wan to protect Padma. It is inferred in the IMAX cut and it works better that way.
  3. Replace the scenes in the meadow with the scenes at Padme's house
  4. Cut out the meeting with the new Queen of Naboo. That whole scene is simply awful, and totally unnecessary to boot. They wisely cut it from the IMAX version.
  5. Cut out the scene showing Anakin in bed having a nightmare. Without it, there is a subtle implication that they're sleeping together, and Anakin wants this to be more than a one-night stand. This changes the complexion of the relationship.
  6. The "I'm a genocidal maniac" scene needs to be kept in, complete with the extra couple of lines of dialogue. This is Darth Vader, folks. What's he going to do, go from white knight to dark lord overnight, with no premonitions? Nothing that Amidala can pick up on?
  7. Duplicate the IMAX alterations to the fireplace scene (cleaning up the dialogue)
And that's my list of changes I would make.

I vote no.

Not because I think they are bad (which I don't) but because, as Lucas and the rest of the team say, they slow the plot down.

Although the field scenes could be switched with the scenes at Padme's house. I thought they were well done, and it's a nice house.

Did anybody else feel a little uncomfortable about Padme's beedroom? It just looked so...Earth-like. Like the normal modern bedroom of a young woman. I've never seen something like that in SW.

I felt the same way with Dex's diner. It seemed so 1950's earthlike that it pulled me away from the Star Wars universe. It didn't seem like something from SW.

I was okay with Dex's diner, since to me it still fits.

But Padme's room just looked so Earthlike, it surprised me. I'm not saying that it didn't fit, just that I didn't expect how it appears.

Not enough technology or something?

No, just so...normal.

I don't know, it's kinda hard to explain. It still fits with SW, just that I didn't expect it.

Ah. I just felt the room was kind of plain and too normal for an ex-queen and senator of Naboo. But she probably doesn't stay there too long so whatever.

The bedroom was a bit bland, but Dex's Diner was ok because of the Blue Jedi with the backing arc, another EU comic character same one driving thatTaxi acting crazy in AOTC.

Well let me state why I think the "I'ma genocidal maniac" scene needs to be out, it doesn't need to be elimnated totally just reshot and doen in a way that makes sense. Yes we need to know that Anakin is capable of brutal murder when he gives in but my problem is nto with him...its with padme. It makes NO sense for her to go up and just be all cuddly right after he admits to multiple homicides. What the scene needed was for her to be shocked, asking how he could do that, and have Anakin break down crying about how much he loved his mother and how he didn't want to do it he just couldn't stop himself the anger was so great. THAT would have been a great scene but the way its put together now just makes no sense.

What kind of SW fans are you? Forget these silly scenes with "oh, blah blah blah" I want the space battle over Geonosis! Acclamators blasting away with 200 gigaton turbolasers!
