Of the two Star Wars sequels and three prequels, which film do you feel has been the most anticipated by both yourselves and by other fans?

Heh, both times you wrote "has" as "as"... :P

The Phantom Menace, simply for being the first Star Wars film in sixteen years, and for being the first new one to come out that I could actually see in the cinema for the first time (I was only a year old when RotJ came out, and Uts wouldn't be born until the next year).

My bad; the message text has been fixed, but there's nothing I can do about the poll...

I haven't lived long enough to care about the other five, so it's ROTS for me.

ROTS just because it will be the last Star Wars movie made and also because I wasn't alive when ESB or ROTJ came out.

Return of the Jedi.

I was old enough to like to wonder what the hell was Darth Vader yabbering about of being the father. I so wanted to know the truth of the matter.

Even though I was severely let down by TPM, I would have to say that that was the film that I was anticipating most.

RotS. I wasn't alive for the first trilogy, and I wasn't really into Star Wars that much for TPM. As with AotC, I anticipated it a lot, but not as much as Ep III, since its, well, the last one.

As the first movie in a very long time TPM gets my vote, although I suppose ROTS is actually more anticipated to me now it is only because I know so much more about the whole deal now than I did then.

I had MAJOR anticipation for the Special Editions when they were first set to come out in theatres. I wasnt born untill 1982 so I missed the originals and learning that the classics would be rereleased in theatres for the 20th anniversary was a massive dream come true for me.

So I guess it really comes down to ANH:SE because it was my first exposure to Star Wars in the theatre plus the 20th anniversary thing and all that, then ROTS for it being the final film, and then TPM for it being the first of the new movies since ROTJ.

I dunno, I'd memorized the teasers to both and the trailer to TPM, which I probably will with RoTS as well. I'd say equally, TPM for being the first SW film in 15 years, RoTS for being the last SW film...

for myself, easily and without a doubt the Phantom Menace, at the time I had little net access, and didn't really see much media of any type other than brit tv.

First I saw of it was the last few seconds of a teaser trailer. Christ , I was amped for the rest of the week.

The Phantom Menace. Easily the most eagerly anticipated movie of the bunch, considering the time lag between ROTJ and TPM. I was jazzed about going to see TPM in a way I wasn't when going in to AOTC. The pomp and ceremony at the cinema were more excessive for TPM too, and lacking for AOTC (though I did watch the two movies at two different cinema complexes).

[EDIT] I should point out, ROTS is vaguely anticipated from what I noticed. The people who are jumping up and down waiting for it include us geeks, but I think a lot of people were let down by TPM and their overanticipation, and to a lesser extent AOTC.

For me it was always RoTS, I always wanted to see the Obi-Wan/Anakin fight. Then when I saw TPM and saw what PT Jedi could do, the anticipiation only grew.

Was Phantom Meance, but then I got let down pretty quickly.

I didn't hold my breath for AOTC, and I'm not for ROTS either.

I think it would have been ROTS for me.

Even when I was little I always was pro Imperial so I always wanted to see how the Empire was formed.

I chose Episode I. Mainly because i remember that Episode I was a movie that i was worked up over. I saw Empire in the special edition movie theater relese but i remember asking my mom 2 months in advanced to take me to see it (Episode I i was 13 at the time). Plus it was the return of the sago

Same situation here. I remember I was in 6th grade when the Special Editions were released in theaters. It was so amazing seeing ANH on the big screen, so I'd say that was the most anticipated. With TPM being second.

The OT was just another fact of life for me at that age. I was nuts about them, but I dealt with each of them when they were released and not before. Because of the sheer amount of EU material I delved into between ROTJ and TPM over the years, TPM was something that I was really waited for with great anticipation. So I'd have to say TPM, because the monumental amount of newspaper clippings I kept, the sketches I made from spoiler pics months before the movie release...

On the ROTS release here on May 19, I've only learnt today that I wont be able to watch it at the premiere because my sister's wedding will be on the 20th, back in my hometown where there is only one old school movie theater. :(

EDIT: I ROTJed when I should have ROTSed.

TPM was probobly the most anticipated for the reasons others mentioned. Here AOTC made some impact as the trailers were on various cable channels and fans of SW watched it. ROTS so far has made little impact, I dont think many people over here know it is coming.

That makes two of us. RotJ without a doubt was the one which I wanted to see the most. Truly, I've also wanted a lot to see TPM, but RotJ beated it to the punch, as far as anticipation goes.

I'm in the same boat as the Ghosts. :)

After seeing ESB in the theater I was definately ready to see RotJ when it came out.

I'd say there was nearly as much anticipation for TPM but it was disappointing. Because of that I wasn't looking forward to AOTC that much so I probably ended up liking it more because I wasn't expecting much.

I am looking forward to RotS but mainly because I really like lightsaber battles and it sounds like there are going to be a lot of cool ones in this movie.

Another vote for RoTJ ... because ESB was the pinnacle of the series. Everybody was so stoked after seeing that in the theater the first time, we expected RoTJ to be even better. Alas, nothing ever quite put the pieces together as well as ESB.

I still like RotJ more. Intellectually I can see ESB for being a better film but I just like RotJ more. I like all the lightsaber stuff.

As a kid I found ESB spooky and was very disappointed that it ended where it did. Plus, I never liked (from a visual entertainment sense) that Vader pumeled Luke with flying objects during their lightsaber duel.

I'm thinking Revenge of the Sith, because, barring George Lucas sitting around one day and thinking that he doesn't have enough money already, it will the last Star Wars movie ever made, and everyone's hoping that it will be good so the series can go out on a high note. I'm too young to remember the OT, and with TPM, two more movies would come after it, so I really didn't care if it didn't meet expectations.
