Q: is a 260Km long Star Destroyter actually feasible?

Post by Johnston »

Awright, Im writing here to query all you people.
Me, and my pal like SW, Btech, V:TM and loads more.
THe thing is, whenever he loses a game, any game, he will always say, i use my Imperium Class Star Destroy er's Fusion cannon to vaporize the entire area. An 260km long SD, that supposedly is a mobile Fortress. Kinda like The Zentraedi's moonbase in Robotech.
ITs gettign very irritating.
I do not possess a degree in science, i cannot fathom what is Fusion cannon suppose to do. SUpposedly, his ship carries a Superlaser that can whack the DS II with one shot.
Now i ask
1. Will an independent Imperial realm possess the resoursces to build such a big ship? Is the armament actually possible?
2. Would the Empire actually build such a ship?
3. What can i do to disable his super-ship?
4. What's an Fusion Cannon?
5. Could such a ship mount a SL pwful enough to whack DS II with a shot?

Thanks all!

Only some egomaniac like the Emperor (or Stalin) would actually build such a ship, if it were feasable.

Seriously, the Deathstars were big enough as it is; no need to build a Staar Destroyer to the size you mentioned.

And BTW, woop-de-doo, anyone can make up some figures for a supership and say that. :P

Just respond with "Well, my ship's hyperspace shields shunt all the energy into hyperspace and leave my ship utterly unfazed, so THERE!" Then watch him cry and scream, "You can't do that, you can't do that!"

If they can build a 800km+ DS I think they don't have to worry about it breaking itself apart anytime soon

Anyway its Fesable, However most of the Interal Spaces would be devoted a mass Power plant and the nessity would be for Powered Transportation through-out the Hull, I'm sorry fokes but one does NOT put the Hanger and CC near each other if possible, And so when the Captian goes off for leave, it need NOT be a two day Journey accross Mountian High and Cavern Deep :P

The Empire easily has the resources to build one, or twenty. They managed to build 60% of the death star II in secret in six months and it out masses the warship in question by a huge margin. The Empire could also build the original 537-klick version.

I always wondered about that. We know 6 months is the time between ESB and RotJ, right?

But how do we know the DSII wasn't started before that?

Shadows of the Empire is why.

The time between ESB and ROTJ is more like a year.

5. Could such a ship mount a SL pwful enough to whack DS II with a shot? Depends on the SL strangth relative to the DS sheilds. If the DS has it's sheilds down easily

A 260km Star Destroyer is possible, but unnecessary and probably unfeasable.

1. Yes, a 900km wide Star was half complete in only 6 months.
2. Probably not. Smaller ISDs do the job fine.
3. The same thing you do to destroy any other ship: Apply power. In this case, it would take a lot.
4. I don't know.
5. I'm sure you could, unless the DS shields are as strong as a planetary shield, and I doubt that.

Hi, I'm new here, nice to meet you all..
I'll take a whack at answering the questions.

. Will an independent Imperial realm possess the resoursces to build such a big ship? Is the armament actually possible? a-as we've seen in the prequels, smaller entities (the Trade Federation, the Intergalactic banking clan, etc.) have the ability to dreate weaponry equal or superior to that of the suppoedly dominant power. A 260km Star Destroyer, however, is a computer different matter-or seems to be. Keep in mind that the Geonosians were planning to build a death star, and they're only one system. b-don't see why not. A 260-km SD is big enough to accomodate the full superlaser, and I imagine the superlaser design of the DSI could be made smaller..
2. Would the Empire actually build such a ship? No. Such a weapon is clearly an offensive device; with the current situation, it's not agood idea.
3. What can i do to disable his super-ship? Galaxy gun missiles would tear it up, IMO.
4. What's an Fusion Cannon? My guess is that is somehow creates a fusion reaction in whatever it hits. that'd look fairly bizarre, IMO..
5. Could such a ship mount a SL pwful enough to whack DS II with a shot? 260 KM is quite a bit of ship room. That's 10 times the size of the Executor or Eclipse, and Eclipse could mount a 1/3rd-power superlaser.

That's my shot.

Welcome to SD.net, mortal. And Force Lightning's my attack! *Force Lightning*

Anyway, the Empire probably could build a 260 km Star Destroyer. I mean, DS II was 900 km, wasn't it? Since it didn't collapse in on itself, I see no reason for a smaller vessel to do so. But there's no point. An SSD is more than enough for your BDZ needs. Heck, even a VSD could do it.

WHy, i actually got the Legendary Grand Admiral to help me.
Well, i dont know.
Independent Imperial Realm I.E Small system..... not Trade Fed's...
Um, he's gt something like one of those Core Warlords... around DarkSaber that time line.... thats the resources we both have.
Now, its very irritating. In every game, he will say "My ship suddenly microjumped in, blasted all your WarShips, and used its Fusion Cannon on [Insert BattleField name] here. (that he just lost) "
Try as i might, i cannot fathom the forces needed to bring an 260km long SD down. Its supose to be a Mobile Base like the Zentreadi's moonbase.
Uber-big and near-indestructible.
Yesh, i know that Fusion Cannon is likely crap, but he borrowed the Idea from BattleTech's Fusion Engine.
And no, small systems wont have something like Galaxy Gun or Sun crusher.
What can i do to stop this guy from pulling out his super-ship?
Or maybe i should just stop playing with him.
