Did anyone else slightly overestimate Jango Fett?
I recall when "Episode 2: Attack of Clones" was coming out. Naturally, I was viewing all trailers available as they came out. This one here is one of my favorites:
Jango Fett Trailer
I'm curious if anyone else was somewhat decieved by the action in this specific trailer. For those familar (or just watched it), the trailer makes Jango Fett seem alot more powerful than he actually was.
The clip in question shows what appears to be the Bounty Hunter fighting Obi Won (a Jedi), with the Jedi on the defensive. The scenes show Obi Won being chased in his spacecraft, Jango Fett sending Obi Won flying with his rocket pack, head butting Obi Won into the ground, etc.
Needless to say, when I first saw this clip, my jaw dropped somewhat. I'd watched the Phantom Menace, and knew how badass the Jedi could be. And here, this clip teased me with a Bounty Hunter who looked good enough that he could mount assaults and take up bounties on Jedi individuals...hardly a small feat.
Anyone else get slightly disappointed when the reverse ended up true? Turns out it was Jango on the defensive, and he wasn't the glorified Bounty Hunter good enough to hunt down Jedi as I originally thought.

Well, that's nice, but I'm talking the films here. The trailer had me teased with something that ended up being untrue. Needless to say, I think a Bounty Hunter of that caliber would've been awesome to see onscreen. A Bounty Hunter even the Jedi respect as someone capable of taking one of them down if he wanted to. *sigh*Matt Huang wrote:Jango might not have been, but the EU indicates that some Mandalorians were able to take on Jedi.

Hmmm. If I saw that trailer prior to AoTC, I too would have thought Jango's performance was somewhat of a let down.
That trailer does show a Jango Fett beating up on Jedi, especially at the end when it shows him shooting his flamethrower and immediately afterwards several Jedi are shown being thrown from a blast, the others running away from it.
It's almost as if Jango Fett himself edited the footage from the movie to make his own commercial.
But my impression was that Jango was pretty tough to be able to go toe-to-toe with Jedi, even blasting one at one point. I mean, he did a lot better against Jedi than Han Sulu did.

I wasn't disappointed that Jango kicked Obi-wan's arse; I was disappointed Obi-wan couldn't kick his arse! It doesn't matter though, Jango Fett's death has symmetry with Boba's death in ROTJ, and for that I wasn't disappointed. It doesn't matter how good you are, lady luck can be a cruel and vindictive bitch.
Both Fetts get done over because of faulty jetpacks. Tsk tsk...
Still, beating up Obi-Wan, gunning down a Jedi (that blue Council-guy ended up deflecting one of Jango´s bolts into his own leg, according to screencap-analysts) and going head-to-head with the baddest motherfucker in the Jedi Order ain´t too bad of a list. For a non-Force user.

Didn't mind at all. Although I was expecting less. Personally, I don't get all the fanboys who love Boba Fett or Jango. They are cool characters but they are supposed to have a limited purpose in the movies. Which is why I dislike lots of EU.

A trailer's purpose is to get you to watch the movie, it IS a teaser. It showed clips from the film that may not have displayed the whole picture, but then, it's not supposed to, that's what the movie is for. I never judge a film based on a trailer, because trailers often make the film look better than will actually be.The trailer had me teased with something that ended up being untrue.
A bounty hunter could never take on an *INTELLIGENT* jedi (short of having a Ysalamiri on his back to even it out).Robert Walper wrote:Well, that's nice, but I'm talking the films here. Seriously, Obi-wan was a complete moron during the fight. All he had to do was pin Jango to the floor with the force, or pull the blasters out of his hands, or forcibly rip his jetpack off with the force and the fight was over and Jango would be captured.
Or if he wanted to kill Jango, just mind trick Boba into shooting his father, problem solved.

I was satisfied with his performance until he jumped into the arena-battle.
Seriously, what was that guy thinking? Jango had been smart enough to let others do the dirty work (Zam Wessel), knew, when he was out of his league (his fight with Obi-Wan) and then that.
The only explenation i have is, that Count Dooku was influencing him to cut some lose ends.

That begs the question, if Jango had survived don;t you think Sidious would have had Dooku eliminate him anyway? It can't be good for business if the original model for the Republic's clone army is the right hand man of the separatist leader.

True...but with all those clones running around somebody in the galaxy is going to recognize the face of a reasonably notorious bounty hunter and the last of the Mandalorians, no?Darth Fanboy wrote:That begs the question, if Jango had survived don;t you think Sidious would have had Dooku eliminate him anyway? Actually IIRC, a youthful Jango was able to kill two Jedi Knights while in a rage after the massacre unwittingly led by Dooku that eliminated the remaining Mandalorian Supercommandoes.Matt Huang wrote:Jango might not have been, but the EU indicates that some Mandalorians were able to take on Jedi.

If you're referring to the comic book where we see Jango kill a number of Jedis with his bare hands, then perhaps it were more than just two, since it never tells, no? We just see him facing a Jedi, surrounded by corpses of both factions, and then collapse depressed.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Actually IIRC, a youthful Jango was able to kill two Jedi Knights while in a rage after the massacre unwittingly led by Dooku that eliminated the remaining Mandalorian Supercommandoes.Matt Huang wrote:Jango might not have been, but the EU indicates that some Mandalorians were able to take on Jedi.
And as for taking his pistols away, we also see him, in these comics, just "pull" them as if he was a Force-user, when he was, in fact, using magnetic-gloves.

There's actually a couple of them still running around, like the head of security at the Seperatist facility in 'Hard Contact'WarScarab wrote:

I always saw that Jango knew he could only take on Jedi using range and guile. Not a head on fight. IIRC he did try to take off with his jet pack when Windu was heading right for him. Thinking his jet pack would still work.Montcalm wrote:Jango was not an idiot,he overestimated his skills when he ran or rocketed after Mace, and got trampled by the beast which damaged his jetpack, and for shooting the Jedi on Geonosis he took the shot while said Jedi was busy attacking Dokuu.

Yeah, it was an addition made for the DVD. Jango tries to blast off about a second or two before Windu decapitates him, but his jetpack misfires and stalls.
