I think the title says it, how could they have possibly been beaten by Ewoks?

Damn fuzzballs

George Lucas screwed up. bottom line.

The stormtroopers have to miss they are suppose to in the movies else they kill everyone and Massacres make bad movies.

I would have paid double to see an Ewok massacre.

And triple if the Rebels had lost.

And quadruple if Luke had turned to the dark side.

I agree with both you guys. The Empire's best troops would've slaughtered the Rebels ad the Ewos in the first 10-20 minutes!

Even the best troops can be killed if they're ambushed while unprepared and outnumbered.

And carriring Hand-guns, wearing white in a forest VS Camo'd troops and not brining the heavy weapons out(IE where was that AT-AT, do you think the rebels had ANY hope of wining if it came around?

Not to forget the Ewok's extreme physical strength and near perfect camouflage.

And Being very short they can hide in the bushes....like they did b4 the ambush.

Also, Georgle Lucas likes to see stupid looking and acting characters succeed.

*Jar Jar is the biggest example*

*bows head in shame*

Has anyone realized that the troops would be at the front door, waiting for the attack with their AT-AT?

I always wondered if perhaps the forces waiting at the front door were DEAF and did not hear the battle going on at the back door? I've come to accept the fact that the Battle of Endor, on the ground side, was a BIT contrived.

They had nothing bigger then a carbine (the scouts had hand guns!) they were hugely outnumbered, and they got their armour support stolen.

I see the failure at Endor as a failure of Tactics. The stormtroops spread out and ran TOWARD the ewoks instead of forming a defensive formation and sticking together and using the AT ST as a support weapon. But the AT ST wuandered off and got knocked out one by one instead of sticking together. The stormtroopers could of massed their fire at the ewoks but instead they ran pell mell toward the woods which of course were filled with little teddy bears. Now if the Stormtroops stuck in a massed group they would have fire superiority, though they would be bigger targets, but to what stones and little wooden arrows. I mean think about it. They could of followed the defensive style that Maximus used in Gladiator in the Coleseum. I mean there is no way they could wipe out that many troopers in a giant circle. What the fight ended up looking like was an entire rout toward the enemy with the untrained empirals sacrifising themselves.

It would have been much better if they had used Wookies as originally intented, I hope that GL will remove the wookies from the movies in his supposedly final re-doing of the triology and insert Wookies instead :D

Maybe they wern't a legion, nor were they elite, and palpatine only claimed thay were to goad luke. Read the [appaling] Crimson empire comics to see just how good the empires best troops were.

Well, they weren't all killed by the Ewoks. The Ewoks were more of an annoying diversion. I would have liked to see more Ewoks get killed, and less Imperials getting beat up.

I always figured they were expecting something as obvious as a diversion to draw them away, and didn't realize until the place blew that the real battle was at teh back door.

But yea, contrived. Explains the lack of AT-AT though.

The books say that the AT-ATs were having trouble in the forest. One wonders why the Rebels didn't just bombard the generator from space, though. One light Calamari cruiser should have been more than enough, or a flight of X-Wings....

Funny, I thought

Funny I thought the Storm trooper had the little fur balls on the run. If it was not for Chewie ( Lord how can the NR Survive without him) capturing a AT-ST and turning it on the Stroom troopers, it look like the Ewoks would not have stop running untill they reach the other side of the Moon...

One Wookie is worth a legion of the emperors best any day

Perhaps they had a shield protecting the bunker, or the fleet didn't know where the shield generatoer was? But, those are dumb reasons. There had to be another.

I could've sworn the reason why they used the Tyderium was to get under the moon's planetary shields....thus excluding non-covert operations.

Right. The generator protected Endor and the Death Star.

Exactly. You can see that during the presentation of the plan for the attack on the DS2. When the shield was shown you could clearly see that it surrounded a quite large portion on the moon.
Also, on approaching the moon with the shuttle had to request that the shield be lowered so that they can go to the base(fly down with the shuttle).

I don't think the presentation was to scale. Look at the way the DS compared to Endor(, Moon of) on the hologram and then when they actually get there.

Yeah, but I still don't think it makes sense. There must have been some other factors, I just don't know what they were.
