empire vs. new republic

The Empire at its height and the New Republic at its height
Im am going to go with the Empire on this. I think that even at its height the New Republic was a bit undisciplined and not well trained enough. The Empire was well disciplined and well trained and their military had the fear of the emperor and vader in them.

This is an easy one. The empire holds all the advantages against the new republic.

The Empire would royally buttfuck the New Republic. They had trouble dealing with an Empire which had already eradicated 99% of its resources, superweapons, and personnel fighting eachother. Squish goes the NR...

Indeed. The Empire holds such huge advatages over the New Republic that it renders these debates pointless.

Yep, New Republic wouldn't even be a blip on the radar, the Empire would plow right throught it without a moments thought.

Mon Mothma more or less banned the production of large ships but that order was apparently rescinded at a later time.
The NR at its height had a military roughly comparable to Palpatine's deep core fleet: both of which were inferior to the might of the Imperial Starfleet at its height.

Not really...they didn't built many, but the Lusankya was still in service in NJO. And they had the Viscount class which would whoop an ISD any day.

One of the worst problems with the New Republic, as shown in the New Jedi Order, is that it cannot effectively bring effective amounts of firepower to bear against one point. Instead of a central authority controlling the fleet, each little sector uses its own ships for its own end without much of a unified purpose. The Empire would kick the living shit out of the New Republic without breaking a sweat.
