Here's a gif of a new type of beam weapon fired from a Venator's hangar bay area. That's a powerfull tractor beam

I'd say it just nother incarnation beam laser weapon like the ones used in LAAt/is and the DSs.

The beam does look like it is pulsating like the other weapons.
After the explosions, it looks like an escape pod turned into a fireball after the hit.

the LAAT/i turret doesn't seem to have pulses and that distance they would hard make out anyway. As for escape pog who, it's possible since something did get turned into a fireball.

At first it looked a lot like a B5/ST battle... It's an interesting weapon, mainly because it comes from the hanger bay.

Looks like a SHPA-T gun put on a Star Destroyer.

Maybe the ship's commander had an SPHA-T put in there as a nasty surprise for enemy ships exploiting that area in an attack.
But seriously, that's a really odd place for a beam to be coming from. Perhaps it's an FX gaffe?

Could be possible, but I doubt it if they're working hard on each little detail of the battle. Besides, it's too conspicuous, so there must be a reason (damned if I can think of one) for having a beam firing from the hangar bay.
Where did you find this, Meest?

It's from the trailer.
I hope it's labelled in the ROTS:ICS!

Only reason I can think of its position there is as a defensive weapon in case any capital manages to get underneath to try and attack the hanger bay. *shrugs*

It's not visible in the version I've seen, which shows the scene right as the red flare shoots off to the right (I can see the beam terminating into the Separatist ship, however).

Actually, the hangar beam shot is from space battle clips in the Clone Wars DVD EP3 featurette. Take a gander: +

Since the republic is just now learning about warfare could the weapon be a new weapon that they just haven't managed install yet in a normal way. After all it probably takes years to design, develop and manafacture a new weapon system.

One of notes for possible scenes in the opening battle did say "Concentrated beam attack", which I took to mean several ships firing beam weapons.

The speed the beam is traveling is not very fast, can it be a short range weapon?

This reminded me of the P-Tower from ESB. I believe it was a beam weapon as well. In some shots it appeared to fire a continuous beam and in other short bolts (running out of ammo?) Point is, when the scene changed to an AT-AT being hit, it showed it more as a long bolt, with the front hitting while the end came into view. It just reminded me of this shot, with the front and back of the beam moving slow enough to register with our eyes.

PD beam weapon perhaps? Turbolaser firing on a different mode?

It only looks that way because of the .gif file format which isnt playing the clip at its proper speed.
IMO its a SPHA-T firing from the cargo area.

While possible, it's highly unlikely. An SPHA-T couldn't depress it's gun that far down. I think its just a hangar defence weapon.

Since the SPHA-T is a turbolaser I'm guessing that this is just a differently calibrated turbolaser. It looks like its short range but has a much higher energy level then a regular TL bolt.

I think so too. It could be a weapon used for boarding or just generally incapacitating a ship and then boarding it.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but maybe it's a test model for the DS superlaser, and they put it in the hangar bay because it was a big, open, convenient space.
Now, obviously, it's not a full-size test model for the superlaser, but perhaps they hadn't previously built that particular type of beam weapon on a scale larger than an SPHA-T gun before and wanted to see how well it would scale up?

Obviously they marched a thousand Clonetroopers into the hangar and told them to fire a volley at that trade federation ship.
Commander: "Company halt! Present arms! Target the donut! Fire! Beware fore! Fire! I say, clonetroopers in a space battle? This is most invigorating?" *being British, like all Republic/Imperial navy personal, he sips his tea as a Gungan in a loincloth carries his personal hunting blaster behind him*
Poncy-the-Gungan: "Yes, massah! Messa think so to!"
Commander: "They are on the ropes! OK, men, on three we give them a round of the old bayonet charge! Poncy, my gun!"
Or not. It's probably just a defensive gun for the hangar taking a opportunistic shot at an unshielded target.
What I find more interesting is that all those ships are so freaking close together and despite the large number of them, every capital ship there, Seperatist and Republic alike, is lined up on about the same axis. They really must work these things out ahead of time.
