All this PG-13 talk has me wondering...

What would you think of R-rated versions of all the Star Wars movies? That is, you'd still have the PG versions, but also selectable R-rated versions on DVD that showed bloody wounds, deleted scenes with violence that didn't make it into the theatrical releases, and even some nudity.

Would that ruin it for you or would you snap it right up?

It'd just be stupid rehashing for cash, in my opnion. If the scenes weren't filmed originally and just cut out to make the grade as PG, then what's the point? Same goes for digitally adding a ton of shit that we all know wasn't REALLY 'always intented'.

It wouldn't ruin it for me. It also wouldn't matter to me, either.

Were you thinking of Star Wars porn or something?

A Saving Private Ryan-style battle of Endor would be sweet. Ewok entrails everywhere! Death from above! Picking bones out of your AT-ST feet!

Hoth might be cool like that.

Rebels getting squashed into jello by AT-ATs
Troopers getting cut in half by E-Webs
NONE of the rebels who ran from trench line make it, instead getting cut down by massed rapid fire from walkers and advancing troopers ala the Holland battle with the SS from BoB

Gritty, to be sure, but I think I like Empire just the way it is ;)

Frankly - it wouldn't be Star Wars. Star Wars for me at least has always been a fairy tale of a galaxy far far away and something you could be sure to take your children to - as I did as a child and enjoy it without any concern.

You add blood, gore and cursing to Star Wars and you've got something else.

Call me crazy, but when you put bigotry, mass warfare, casual murder, black sorcery, slavery (sexual and otherwise), mass genocide, and (close enough) patricide into a theme, you lose the right to call it PG in the first place. And that's a good thing.

Grimm's fairy tales have a nasty dark undercurrent to them, cannibalism, patricide, fatricide, magic black and otherwise, etc. That doesn't stop them from being fairytales. When you look at it with adult eyes sure the stuff can be gruesome but children love fairytales and Star Wars in my opinion definately qualifies. Aliens and its gory action sci fi ilk most certainly does not.

Not saying that it should be gory, it just annoys the crap out of me to see (largely in the PT) stuff being...I'll be blunt, fucking retarded, because it's aimed at the PG rating.

R rated Star Wars would have pluses!

AT-ST walking over/through people(blood splats), Jabba would have Leia in no outift :wink wink:, when a Stormie would die occasionaly you would hear him yell "Sh*T".

Oh yeah.....R would be fun.

I can't say I'd care for it. Part of the appeal of SW is that I can watch it with my children, and frankly added gore and violence would simply disturb me.

As for Stormies swearing when they go down, part of the appeal of them is that they have no emotion, even when they die.

INT: MILLENIUM FALCON. There is a strip poker game going on.

Han: I don't believe in fancy jedi tricks, old man.

Obi-Wan: F*ck you.

Luke: Shut the f*ck up motherf*cker!

Chewie: Graahhh!

Silence. Everyone looks at Chewbacca.

Han: Well done f*ckface, it's gonna be a f*cking NC-17 now. Sh*t.

The image of a highly dignified, venerable old man like Sir Alec Guiness tell some young carpenter to "Fuck off" illicited a chuckle from my mouth.

"You have failed me for the last time, Admiral."

"Eat shit and die, bitchtits! Why don't you stick it where the sun don't shine?"

*Vader pulls out his lightsaber...*

R would be pointless and ruin the movie for me. If you don't need R, don't make it R.

But you'd still have the original PG versions. The R-rated versions would be optional.

Emperor: Good! Good! Now, fulfill your destiny, and take your father's place at my side!

Luke: Fuck that.

*Luke throws his lightsaber at Palpatine, but misses*

Luke: Shit.

*Palpatine limbers up and strikes several stupid martial arts poses*

Emperor: Bring it.

*Slo-mo kung fu fight. Palpatine hits Luke*

Luke: You sucker punched me, bitch! *Kicks Palpatine on the shin. He fals to the floor. Luke picks up the Emperor's cane and-
[Censored]
-Luke washes his hands.

Leia: Those old guys really splatter don't they?

Luke: Shit yeah.

Theres no point, I want to see blood and death I'll pop in Saving Private Ryan or Kill Bill, and then the blood and gore will actually add to the movie.

I'm sorry.

An adulted up Leia-Jabba scene is enough incentive for me to not support this idea.

well the sad thing is that hes describing what star wars wouldve been if it had been filmed in this day and age. Nudity, Swearing, and a helluva lot of gore wouldve been staples to this kind of flick. Vader throwing palps into the reactor? fuck that, instead we see vader rip palpies fucking heart out of his chest. Leia would indeed either be even skimpier or downright nude, and so would the rest of jabbas 'entertaining females'. And i'm sure we'd have some contrived 'death of a hero' scene.

Well the reason I could have for R rated would just to see how close some near or pseudo human species are (prefeble with female examples).

I'm not so much pondering remade OT R-rated versions, but more PT ones. The OT ones were just...made, and rated after the fact. I get the feel that the PT ones were made specifically for their rating, and it shows in the kiddy crap.

I'm inclined to agree, although I think the whole 'cross breed fantasy/fairytale/sci-fi' in SW is a bit overated. ANH is perhaps the best example of it, but TESB and ROTJ slowly moved away from those themes in terms of style. With the exception of the 'enchanted forest' scene in Empire and the entire notion of the Ewoks in ROTJ, although they were more fairytale in the Ewok sereis then anything else.

I think blood and gore is a given for Ep III.

Han Would be turned into a woman as well. (And still fall in love with Leia.)
