The Empire would use Droids instead of Clones, and the military would be structured differently, but Sidious would still have his Empire.

Unless they put a TL bolt through his window without knowing Palpatine was Sidious. Even a Sith Lord is no match for appropriately applied gigatonnage. How fitting would that be?

Since the Separtists are the moronic puppets of the Leader of the Galactic Republic (unknowing, yes, but that doesn't improve their standing) this is one "what if" that aint possible under any condition

CIS vs. Republic is like Japan vs. the US in WWII. The CIS landed some good shots early, but once the Republic actually goes online with military production and recruiting, not a prayer. The only prayer the CIS would have would be for the Republic to decide that enough's enough and to let them go.

With Palpatine in charge, that of course would not happen.

So no, no CIS victory. Palpatine couldn't allow that, because for the CIS a victory wouldn't be the conquest of the Republic, but the formation of an independent state, and he used the Clone Wars as an excuse to consolidate power under a supreme leader.

Spoilers for 'Dark Rendevous':

Count Dooku is not exactly the fan of Sidious you might expect.

Spoilers for 'Revenge of the Sith':

He could thus alter the gameplan of Grevious' attack on coruscant to simply kill Palpatine.

ROTS Spoiler: The Republic is loosing on all fronts. The Seperatists are in fact, the USA. Only the collossal betrayal on the part of Palpatine ensures their loss.

LABYRINTH OF EVIL SPOILERS

Are you kidding NecronLord? According to every ROTS lead-in source, including Labyrinth of Evil, the Confederacy is on the run right before the movie begins. Their only strongholds are in the Outer Rim, and they are at risk of being pushed out of the Spiral Arms. In Palpatine's State of the Republic speech, he's already proclaiming victory. The majority of the Confederacy's military commanders have been killed or captured, and all the Confederacy homeworlds have been taken. Grievous' attack on Coruscant is a desperation tactic, as he has no hope of taking the planet. The Deep Core hyperspace routes he used to reach the planet were supplied by Darth Sidious, as were the means to infiltrate the Chancellor's bunker. Without Sidious' help on the inside, Grievous would have never been able to attack Coruscant, and he would have been eventually destroyed by the Republic.

Thats strange. Because IIRC on Hyperspace it is talking about the exact opposite. Grevious pushing forward on all fronts, Corellia almost under seige and so on. I think we have a case of the EU people not talking to each other. I would guess strategic success for the CIS however is dependent highly on Sidious constently passing information to Doku and Grevious.

The whole Grievous pushing ahead on all fronts and Corellia at risk of being attacked took place 21 months after the Battle of Geonosis. More than a year before the end of the war and the events of ROTS. A lot can change in 15 months.

Not so. In Medstar they mention non-Clone troops being used. Small numbers, yes, but present. The Clone Wars III graphic novel has local forces augmented by Clone troops on Jabiim.

Furthermore, the fleet is at the very least not entirely commanded by clones. For example, the Clone Wars V graphic novel has a younger Captain Pellaeon.

(And god damn it, he shouldn't have been old enough to be a captain in the Clone Wars.)

As for the spoilery stuff, Sharky has answered that.

The Separatists had a large number of industrial systems come to their side early, but Shatterpoint mentions that the main task of the early part of the war for the Republic is to hold out long enough for their superior numbers and manufacturing capacity to start having a telling effect.

If Palpatine hadn't been manipulating the whole thing, the Separtists might have a chance to win peace and independence. But then, if Palps hadn't been around then the whole situation wouldn't have manifested in this fashion anyway.

Chris is right about a large portion of the Separatists success coming from Palpy feeding them info. He stage-managed several situations where senior members of the Jedi Council could be killed, such as Obi Wan on Jabiim, Rancisis on Parcellus Minor, Yoda on Thustra and again with the Dooku situation.

But what Grievous was doing was a lot of hit and run, in the end, striking where he could win.
