Star Wars conversations...

Ok I know this girl from another board. This is the first time I've ever talked to her. I've shortened it down, cut out some of the other junk. But I was just curious has anyone ever had a conversation like this with anyone? about this topic or something similar that just boggled your mind coming from someone who claimed they knew so much about star wars? on the board we post she sort of implies she has the most knowledge, or most correct knowledge on the subject. But does this show she doesn't?

Anyway just thought I'd share. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Aurora: they messed some things up too originally uncle owen was suppose to be obiwan kenobis brother
Aurora: not anakins step brother

Caius: um no

Aurora: thats what it said on the back of one of my action figures
Aurora: before the prequal came out

Caius: well then that's wrong

Aurora: and you have proof
Aurora: I don't remember them ever saying he was actually his brother in the original trilogy

Caius: it's in there

Aurora: no its not

Caius: it wasn't really expanded until the AOTC where we find out they are stepbrothers

Aurora: yea I know
Aurora: which doesn't count
Aurora: its the prequal

Caius: but technically it does

Aurora: I can remeber the spirit obiwan talk word for word but im putting the dvd in and looking at it to make sure

Caius: but I know for sure that obi-wan and owen were never said to be related at any point in the movie
Caius: and I believe luke says something like he wants to be a fighter pilot like his father but his uncle owen won't let him

Aurora: your point?
Aurora: he called him uncle owen the entire time doesn't make it real

Caius: just saying that obi-wan isn't related to owen

Aurora: not really
Aurora: just because luke has called him uncle owen his whole life says nothing to that hes related to anakin in any way either

Caius: so you are saying Lucas just made up owen as luke's uncle in ANH?

Aurora: leia calls organa mom and dad doesn't mean its real
Aurora: her dad anyway

Caius: yeah cause she was raised by them
Caius: it's adoption

Aurora: and luke was raised by uncle owen

Caius: yeah his real uncle by relation to anakin

Aurora: according to the prequal only
Aurora: theres NOTHING in the original trilogy that says it

Caius: not to be rude but is there actually a point to this? or do you just like trying to hold "knowledge" over people

Aurora: no
Aurora: im just saying thats what the action figure box said
Aurora: and theres nothing in the original trilogy that actually contradicts it
Aurora: which comes to my complaining about them changing stuff in the prequal

Caius: I don't think in this instance this was a case of changing things, just a misprint on an action figure

Aurora: I doubt it

I'm sorry, but I keep losing track of what either of your positions are. It's hard to read.

As you get to know Caius, you get used to it

(man, she is gonna make me suffer for that)

Basically, Aurora is claiming she had a action figure of Owen from pre-Prequel/pre Special Edition era that said he was Obi-wan's brother

What, like a vintage figure? They never made a Owen Lars action figure for the original line.

The "Owen is Obi-Wan's brother" thing came from the RotJ novelisation.

sorry about that I'll add some spacing. She's claiming that the info on a back of an action figure saying that Owen is related ot Obi-Wan and not Anakin is is correct while the movies make up Owen related to Anakin. Lucas just created it to change things for the original trilogy.

The lack of spacing wasn't the problem. I just couldn't follow your conversation.

Based on what I could understand, both of you are right... to a certain extent.

1. Movies don't establish Owen's relation to either Luke or Obi-wan. It's implied that Owen is Luke's actual uncle.

2. ROTJ novelization has Obi-Wan saying something to the effect that Owen is Obi-Wan's brother.

3. All EU literature from then on is keyed to Owen = Obi-Wan's brother.

4. AOTC comes out, quashes novelization statement. Now Owen is Anakin's stepbrother.

Since movie > novelization in terms of canon heirarchy, all EU references to the novelization would have been retconned. Nothing new, retconning. More major and minor retconning coming up in May when ROTS gets released.

HOWEVER...........

There is nothing to prevent Obiwan kenobi from being Owen real brother, well, nothing but a webmaster sayso on the SW.com Jedi Council, but she has been known to be wrong before.

Take it where you will. The background story makes it possible, considering Obiwan apparently visited his family before and Owen was an off-worlder. Which makes one wonder why anyone will want to emmigrate to Tatooine, but, I digress.

Actually they did I own it as well. It was a mail order, much like the Jawa's sand crawler which I order which was made of cardboard and some plastic.

wow that stuff must be older then me o.O hmm i heard of the obi-wan/owen thing but i thought it was dropped from the movie by lucas because it would have made it to chessy for all of them to be related to each other.

That wasn't Owen Lars, that was Anakin Skywalker.
