When watching AOTC, did anyone feel...

Post by Vympel »

Did anyone feel embarassed when they saw some of the "jedi extras" in the arena- I mean the ones igniting their sabers? There are at least a few who go to en garde in REALLY FUCKED UP WAYS that just made me cringe .... not to mention that some of em fought like tools .... especially the girl who goes "haaaaaaaaaaaah" when she kills a droid -- wtf?

Pet peeve of mine. I hate to be embarassed when such a scene comes up.

The worst is the Jedi with the face painted Amidala-style, IMO. There's nothing wrong in enjoying killing robots, it shows that Jedis can also feel joy.

Only some of the extras used actually had an skills in that kind of weaponry. So a lot of them were pretty much faking it. And they were just posing to look good, so the stances are foolish looking.

Indeed, half the Extras where faking it and it was pretty easy to tell

Yeah, that was pretty embarassing.

Most of the jedi extra's were Aussie martial arts students, so blame the aussies.

According to Robert Brown, most of the Jedi extras were flashy, immature martial arts students that were able to wow Nick Giliard (or whatever his name is) with their "combat skills".

I think he also said that there were several REAL kendo students there (and I think maybe a few masters), and they chastized the flashy morons, with some of the masters yelling that they didn't really know anything about combat, only how to do "cool" moves.

It has been speculated (correctly, I think) that many of the Jedi we saw were immature padawans.

Immature or not, if they have received a real lightsaber they had better damn well know how to use it. It's not a good idea to give some immature padawan who is concerned about looking good a pretty dangerous weapon.

The "warm up scene" before the battle began was okay, as it was meant to be visible and not effective. The parts of the Arena battle itself (I, too, hated that girl) were inexcusable. It is likely that many of them were Padawans, and some of them were known to be Padawans, but even Padawans should have been more professional than that while entering a combat zone.

The fact that they showed no training at all. Their stances were horrible for any sort of weapon, and even if they were rushed, we know that at least basic training can be done quite quickly (cf. Obi-Wan training Luke in the Falcon). I can say rather confidently that I could do better in holding a sword properly, though I'm not trained, just by watching Aikidoka practice with bokken and reading papers on the proper techniques of longsword usage. It wouldn't have taken longer than one or two days (AT MOST) for them to learn proper stances for swordfighting. It just shows a lack of effort.

No problem. I just didn't like their lack of professionalism, and found it out of place. On the other hand, I could easily say the same thing about putting the MTV version of the Council of Elrond in the LotR DVD set.

Not exactly, the MTV version of the Council of Elrond was at least kept out of the movie.

Sense when did we become experts on the proper use of a lightsaber? Did it not occur to anyone that other civilization may have developed completely unique fighting styles that wouldn't resemble what we know or would even look wrong to us?
There is no problem to dificult for a signifigantly large enough quantity of C-4 to handle.

If you need proof that what they were doing was wrong, just look at acknowledged masters of the lightsaber and compare the two styles. Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and Mace Windu all have different styles, but none of them even remotely resembled the ones being used by some of the red-shirt-Jedi. Neither did Yoda's, even though his is TOTALLY different from that of the other three, and he is considered the greatest Jedi swordsman.

OK, so they weren't very professional. They were a bunch of flashy show-offs. Why not simply interpret this in the context of the film as part of the underlying theme of Jedi arrogance? Too sure of themselves they are. And they paid the price.

Hmmm, it would appear that Lord Wong is slowly gaining attributes of Yoda from his avatar. I suspect that in six hundred years, the conversion shall be complete.

If backwards talk becomes the norm for him it would be a strong indication.

Where did he say that? I've looked at his lightsaber page - he hasn't updated it in over a year. He really needs to put some updates in there now that ep. II is out.

Yeah now that the DVD's out I can't wait to see Bob Brown annihilate those flashy red-shirt Jedi :)

It's good to know that it wasn't just me though ... when me and my best friend were watching the dvd and we saw that shit we both put our hands over our faces and cringed.

I'm frigging glad they got killed. Fucken being embarassed by the flashy stupid antics of Jedi ...

To be honest, someone who attended one session of almost any weapons art could have looked better. BTW, when not facing another lightsaber armed opponent, would there be anything really wrong with using a standard fencing stance?

Well in Episode I the lightsaber styles of Obi-Wan and Maul were quite over the top ... Qui Gon was much better, and in Episode II Obi-Wan fights more sensibly. No problems about how Windu or Dooku fights either.

What was inexcusable however was what they did to Yoda ... seriously why all the jumping?
