A friend of mine just pointed out that Yoda speaks with a Latin syntax. I don't know Latin myself, but from what I know of Spanish it certainly seems similar. If that really was GL's intention, then the effect of Yoda's speech style would imply an ancient wisdom, completely opposite to that of childish gibberish most people assume.

Actually, I've heard that Yoda's grammar is more along the lines of Old English. Apparently it's on this video series on the history of the English language that my dad watched awhile back while helping my siblings with their schooling...

Given the natural Geekiness of some Warsians, I would have no doubt that someone, somewhere, has already tried translating Yoda-Speak into Latin to see how it turns out.

In universe explination could be that is native tounge has the same speech pattern that he uses when he speaks basic.

That's a good point. I've heard that Gaelic speakers will often repeat a whole sentence with a negatice in it, because Gaelic lacks a word for no.

So, if someone asks whether a Gaelic speaker is going for a walk, instead of just saying no, they might say, "I am not going for a walk."

Or the trouble people sometimes have throwing extra verbs to the end of a German sentence.

i was unfortunate enough to take latin and the thing is is that all verbs in a proper latin sentence, verbs always go on the end.

I speak Spanish. Yoda just speaks backwards.
