How "strong in the Force" does a person need to be

Before the Jedi Council will accept them for training to become a Jedi?

I mean how would they even measure/decide?

Would they need to have a certain minimum midi-chlorian count? Or would experienced Jedi masters go by how strong they "felt" the person to be in the Force?

Just wondering about these things...

They would probably have to be taken in at a young age, probably at a few years or younger, to begin training, although older people can be trained, as demonstrated with Luke Skywalker. Perhaps it's voluntary, and if someone feels that their child is "strong in the force", they'll consider him, if a Jedi doesn't do it first.

They are brought in at years less than 8 years old, or less than Anakin in TPM. As for Luke, I think he was a special case. Remember the Council said Anakin was already too old to be tought. And Luke was way older.

And how would it be voluntary? Do you mean the parents of the child? A kid wouldn't be able to make the decision wisely.

It's unclear how strong they need to be. Luke appears to have lowered the standard slightly in allowing Tionne to become a Jedi Master, but Edge of Victory clearly demonstrates that she herself possesses powerful Force techniques. In The Approaching Storm, one being does manage to manipulate an object I've always assumed as being between 2 and 5 kilograms, with great difficulty, for a short amount of time. The individual in question was not a Jedi, but it is unclear whether or not he had slipped detection by virtue of being born on Ansion--a relatively unimportant planet. I would have to say that there are likely some individuals out there with some force talent who are not taken on as Jedi, but that such an occurance is rare.

It may be that the blood tests used to indicate force potential are administered universally at birth in the Republic, or at least to all whose parents will allow it. Any positives get forwarded to the Jedi who will send a Knight to check up on positive hits. I'd expect that Children are not forcibly taken, however I'd also expect its either soon after birth or around 4-5 that the children leave there parents if there willing to give them up.
