Sequel of sorts to the Favorite Clone Wars novel thread.
One of the joys of the Star Wars novels is that they are able to expanded upon small mentions and cameos and add to the tapestry of the saga. In that regard, there have been four novels that have helped set the stage and lead-into these Episodes. Which is your personal favorite and why (and yes, I am counting SoTE)?

Shadows of the Empire is the only one I can vote for, since it's the only one I've read.

Wasn't there a thread like this a while back? Don't remember. Oh well.
But I agree with Labyrinth of Evil.

Always been a big fan of Shadows of the Empire. It explained a lot of things that bothered me about RotJ, for a start where Leia got the Breen suit. Also gave a huge fuck you to the trek side of the versus debate by showing that the Death Star can be made bigger and better even when supplied by civvies.

I'm personally tied between Cloak of Deception and SoTE.
With SoTE, you get answers to many questions fans had, from how and where Luke constructed his second lightsaber to exactly how many Bothans died to bring the Alliance the plans to the second Death Star. Also fun in seeing Luke dealing prior to ROTJ with the knowledge that Vader may indeed be his father.
Then, with Cloak of Deception, you also get a lot of questions surrouding the political background of TPM cleared up, making the film flow a little better on a second viewing now that you have a better idea of what's going on (as well as the EU/OT-era character cameos that Lucenco put in as well as making the Neimoidians a little more than the one-dimensional jackasses that we were shown back in '99).

"Shadows of the Empire" because of the way the Xizor/Vader conflict was played out.

Shadows of the Empire. Overall it was a good lead in to ROTJ.

Labryinth of Evil, because you see that Obi-Wan and Anakin are two inches away from being connected at the hip. And because Anakin does admit that he needs Obi-Wan's patience and guidance to counterbalance his own feistiness.
