A Yavin "what if"

Post by Kuja »

The DS is approaching Yavin 4, and the Rebels are preparing to launch their fighters. Wes Janson has overcome a brief bout of flu and has been declared fit to fly, along with Jek Porkins.

Does he make a difference?

Didn't Porkins fly in that Battle? I distinctly remember "cover me Porkins".

Maybe you just meant as wingman.

Anyway- if Wes is supposed to be really good, he may save the lives of a few Alliance pilots- especially poor Biggs who I really would've liked to see survive.

Yes, That's what I meant. Remember, Porkins was a replacement for Wes. This time, I want them both up and flying.

No, I think it's from the comics.

Too bad the official site isn't referenced- starwars.com says that Wes came down with 'Hesken' fever and couldn't fly.

It also says that Jek Porkins X-Wing suffered mechanical failure, and this is why he was destroyed .... never realized that before. Just thought he couldn't handle the fire.

He had some damage but rode his X-wing down in flames rather than eject. He was the "I can hold it" guy.

According to the X-Wing books, Porkins had the internal gravity all the way down (so his weight wouldn't make him uncomfortable) and couldn't feel that he wasn't pulling up. I always assumed the hit took out one of his elevators (or whatever the starfighter equivalent is) and he didn't realize it and rode the X-Wing down.

They use vectored thrust and small banks of thrusters to maneuver. It may be his electromagnetic vectoring system was shot out. Wes might save a pilot or two and a couple more TIE might's go down but the impact is unlikely to be significant.

How 'bout the big Yavin what if?

What if Luke misses? Does that just utterly crush luke and send him to the dark side? What happens to Han? Does he just become an embittered smuggler running drugs for the rest of his life?

How does the rebellion survive, if it can at all?

Depends on how important Yavin is.

Will Princess Leia survive because she was getting a new hairdo?

Will Luke find out that Leia is his sister?

Will Han find out he's the father of Chewy's baby?

Find out on "As the Death Star Turns"

Doesn't Star Wars Infinities cover that?

It did...and seriously the story became almost too funny because of it...they basically went from SW-ESB-RoTJ in four issues with little explaination other than...in the next year/months.

Oi I swear Inifinites is some bizarro way of DH to do worse than usual SW stories.

However, the new Infinities looks good: it's an ESB plot change, where the Wampa KILLS Luke.

Eh so far the story is now going to be some weird variation of Leia fighting Vader...on Dagobah(though I wonder if Vader will kill Han...though Poor Fett and Lando)

Hopefully Book 4 will be better than the last three have been.

Though with RoTJ...I wanna see a Luke gone bad.

Read Past Imperfect, a great scenario take if admittedly fanfic.

There should be an Infinities comic where Yoda goes with Luke to Bespin in his X-Wing to help him out.

"Go with you, I will. Kick ass, I must."

(Hobbles up to Luke and leaps into his backpack.)
(R2-D2 starts beeping obsceneties at Yoda in his droid language.)
(Yoda uses the Force to bang Artoo's dome with his cane.)

"Get in, you will!"

(Yoda uses the Force to lift Luke and himself into the cockpit.)

"Take off, you must!"

(Hits Luke on the head with his cane.)

"Ow! Ow! All right, Master! Stop hitting me!"
"Hegh hegh hegh hegh hegh hegh!"

(Obi-Wan's ghost laughs at Luke.)

Well, maybe. On the other hand, if the numbers were correct in the X-Wing novels, and Wedge were using 95 % inertial dampening, those five percent would still manage to pulp him at the stated speeds of X-Wings. On the other hand, it's Stackpole, so one might excuse the passage on grounds of the author's mental instability.
