One-note Clone Wars Rant

Has the CW struck anyone as a depressingly one-note affair? One army is clones, the other droids. One capship per team. Noone ever formed a volunteer unit in the Rep army (probably because Palpy made it illegal, but hey). No CIS world augmented their forces with non-droids, unique droids, etc. Aside from Grievous' ship, one late-war cap per team. SMALL caps, too, ugh.

While I *know* that it's essentially Palpys tabletop wargame, its always rubbed me the wrong way that a) every Rep trooper is a clone b) every CIS trooper is a droid c) Venators and ... ... P-somethings are it etc. Could the CIS have made themselves look any WORSE? Warlike Rep planets don't contribute to galactic or sector defence? When the CIS attacks a Rep planet, are the local forces told to put their guns down, park their headhunters and put their tanks back in the hanger?

Well thankfully Medstar dualogy has both Non-clone and non-droid troopers (on both sides)

Eh... there's been tons of examples of local forces contributing to the conflict. See the Battle of Jabiim, the Siege of Saleucami, and the Battle of Mon Calamari, for starters. In the movies there are only a couple of ship types, but elsewhere we see Rendili dreadnaughts, Geonosian dreadnaughts, Givin frigates, etc. plus Kuati battlecruisers and battleships. There's a lot of variety.

And in RotS there will be *spoilers, highlight to read*

I haven't actually bought any Star Wars Insider, but I suddenly remember this pic from I was browsing through joecorroney.com. Plus wasn't there spoiler pics of a lightly armored Neimoidian trooper sometime back?

The thread-starter hasn´t paid attention to the various CW stories, I see.

Knock yourself out, vehicle-wise.

I know bout the vehicles in CW. The standard Tradefed tank is used everwhere. Apart from stupid one offs like the Hammer of Gayness, it's hardly offsetting the rest.

And I'm not reading those stupid EU books. Although it IS good variety is in there.

There is already far more movie ship and ground vehicles variety than the Galactic Civil War had.

I agree.

I wanted to see a full Republic fleet with everything from proto-Executor-class ships to proto-Star Destroyers to proto-TIE Fighters battling it out with a similarly well-rounded Seperatist armada. And on Kashyyyk I wanted to see a full set of combined arms and unique local military force.

Instead I get the VENATOR SWARM [tm].

One out of two ain´t so bad. :P

I feel the same way clone wars is not clone wars if there is only one war and two sides. Plus none of the EU clone wars stuff(Spartti cloning tanks, cloakshapes, z-95s, victorys, etc) are shown except for the juggernaught. Plus in one of the guides the timeline says that the clone wars ended three years before ep 1, GL really changed the timeline on us!!

I have to say though that after reading the ROTS novelization the star wars saga really seemed to come full circle. Lord Vaders lines in ANH to Obi-wan sums it up(the circle is complete...Now I am the master!).

Oh boo hoo hoo, give off. You and your half self-constructed dead horse...

As for the timeline thing, it's called revisionism. Stuff like that happens after you open the gates to what more or less was forbidden territory for about fifteen years.

I didn't mean those three, I meant them and everything in between.

Even if you tell everyone that this is the timeline and fuck up all their work when you change it? Oh plus the fact that Obi-wan is atleast three years younger then he has to be in TPM.

Then you do what's called RETCONNING...

I feel the same way clone wars is not clone wars if there is only one war and two sides.
The wars might be separated into two or three parts:

Republic vs. Separatists under Dooku (AOTC-ROTS), Republic vs. Separatists under Grievous (ROTS), Empire vs. Jedi and their sympathisers (ROTS +).
Plus none of the EU clone wars stuff(Spartti cloning tanks, cloakshapes, z-95s, victorys, etc) are shown except for the juggernaught.
Z-95s and Victory-class destroyers are mentioned several times, especially in the factbooks.

Kartr_Kana is under some damn delusion that the occasional bit and piece hints and mentions of stuff from the Clone Wars era equates with some whole non-existant previously established EU version of the Clone Wars. In fact it only exists in his mind...

So far I´ve seen little that goes against previously established CW EU, except for dates and such.

No, not really Spanky. There were some pretty lucid impressions from the Farlander Papers and the Thrawn Trilogy that were just run roughshod over by the Prequel Trilogy.

Yeah, but he acts like there was this huge continuity that already existed, and all he can bring up is just handfuls of ships, equipment, and otherwise trival crap like that.

I haven't seen Season 3, but it sounds like somebody forgot about Season 1-2. There's plenty of examples to go against the "one-note" criticism. Anyway, yeah, something like that.

As to the Continuity thing, well, there you have it. Just about everything we "thought" we knew about the Clone Wars prior to the Prequel films has been turning out to be wrong, or turned on its ear. Love it or hate it... Now it's retconned.
