Updates at the Domus Publica

Post by Publius »

Part III of "Sic Transit Gloria" has been posted to the Analysis section of the Domus Publica. Also, commentaries on Bank of the Core and Ayelixe/Krongbing Textiles have been added to "A Billion Here, a Billion There..."

One might also notice that the frontispiece, a drawing of the Galactic Emperor's court assembled, has been added to the main page. There is a link to a very much larger version of the drawing, with the people in the picture identified. There are currently plans to add similar pictures for Senator Palpatine and Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, to accompany the Galactic Emperor Palpatine's picture.

Work proceeds on other additions to "A Billion Here, a Billion There..." and on a planned article on Imperial uniforms, "Pass in Review." Work is also beginning on Part IV of "Sic Transit Gloria," the final part of the series which is currently planned to cover the time period from Operation Shadow Hand to the assassination of Xandel Carivus.

Progress on the site has unfortunately been slow of late because of prior commitments to class. Hopefully future updates should be more timely. As always, questions, comments, and observations are welcome and encouraged.

More excellent work making sense of this chaotic period. One minor correction: towards the middle of the text, a line reads' and suffering from a stagflated economy' which I assume should be 'stagnated'. Keep up the great work!

Stagflation is a very serious economic condition which consists of the combination of stagnation (i.e., recession, high unemployment) and high inflation. It is especially difficult to address because a central bank can either counter stagnation by lowering interest rates (thereby exacerbating inflation), or counter inflation by increasing interest rates (thereby exacerbating stagnation). Needless to say, such an economy would be particularly debilitating to a collapsing Empire.

Uh, could you add some labels to the picture. Yes, I know all 95 of those people are in there somewhere, but not which is which. Darth Vader, Thrawn are obvious. The rest are ...

It is a portmanteau of "stagnation" and "inflation," coined during the 1960s to describe the combination of both conditions at the same time.

Kazuaki Shimazaki, a more detailed description of the frontispiece has been added, which should aid in identifying each character, as it is organized by groups and describing characters' locations in relation to one another.

For some reason, the final, colored version of the frontispiece doesn't show up for me. I've tried different browsers and different computers. I can see the uncolored version, though. It's been this way for weeks.

That minor gripe aside, keep up the good work, as ever. I look forward to all your works, and am particularly interested in seeing "Pass in Review." I am also anticipating the continuation of "The Test of Wills."
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

@Publius:

Another excellent update. You're picture is also great. Last time i looked it seemed, that you had Trachta twice by accident. I remember wondering about an Wilhuff Trachta, Grandmoff of the Outer Rim. Either you corrected this in the meantime or my memory is suffering decline. :P

Another Wilhuff? Is that the secret to becoming a Grand Moff, change your name to Wilhuff? :shock: :P

Yes, so we should have Wilhuff Kaine, Wilhuff Hissa and so on. :P

@Publius:

On second reading of the "Sic transit gloria"-article, i remember, that the shipbuilding at Bilbringi must have been very impressive considering the awe of Talon Karrde's smugglers in TLC. I'm also wondering about your use of the term "pet-admiral" for Drysson and Thrawn.
